SE could sell crysta directly to the players. This would generate a cash flow for the game and help make a smooth transaction from Free to Play to Micro Transactions. SE would be able to balance it by making Rare/EX items as well as some items that can not be bought/sold via this crysta system. Some people say buying items straight from AH with crysta obtained via SE would give an unfair advantage to players with extra cash to spend on a game. Though it would require less ingame work, making money outside the game is much harder to do. I mean is it harder to mow a yard for 20 bucks or make 500k from sitting in a comfy chair and waiting for a Notorious Monster to show up on a video game?
You assume this will free up RMT activity, but here is what I see happening:

Johnny G. Two-Shoes puts up this neat rare item on AH for $5 US.

Meanwhile, in mainland China, 20 RMTs post said item on AH for $0.50 US.

Suddenly, everyone and their dog receives decent things with no point nor effort, gil is rendered virtually useless (different from now, how? lol.) and the game would be hindered.

That's what I believe.

Unfortunately Diablo III isn't in line with monthly sub MMORPGs. It's a different style of gameplay in comparison, which is why micro transactions work for Diablo, and not for an MMO like Final Fantasy.
