

It's a quirk of this game's resolution for resolving effects, damage, and general animation delay.
The short version is that by the time you see the cast bar for Dread(whatever), it's already too late to stun it. Your stun must go out before it starts casting. Which is why people generally just stunlock.

Correction : By "Dreadstorm", I was supposed to imply the Dreadwash, the AOE unavoidable hysteria.
I believed both Dread skill are stun-able. The rotation for the caster is something like " Darkness-Dreadwash-Dreadstorm". From the time when he appears to the moment he cast Dreadwash, he should have already been stunned twice, then the third stun is for the Dreadwash. That explains why Dreadstorm can not be stunned because by the time he cast Dreadstorm, he already gain Stun immunity thanks to diminish return.
