It had multiple levels, that's what's important. You didn't just fight Darnus in the same circle; you sent ranged onto the stairs to take out comets, and DPS up to the very top to finish zerging him (or whatever, it's been a while). Much more interesting than the current arena designs, in my opinion.
I mean really, compare the two (Coil Turn 9 spoilers yo);

One of the reasons why i like low level dungeons is because the boss areas aren't all square or circles. Take for example Cutter's cry, Aurum Vale, Dzemael.
I was kinda expecting Snow Cloak will be where we fight Shiva. That and it looks like if we fall of the edge we gonna die, again.
The stairs were inside of the circle, so it would still be in the same circle on top of the stairs ^^It had multiple levels, that's what's important. What you mean is a 3D arena, regardless of the base geometry.
I have read you can fall down from the Shiva arena and climp up stairs to go back into the fight.
But yes, the devs should bring again some arenas where also the 3rd dimenson is involved. Climbing up stairs or destroying falling objects before they reach the bottom. Or testing a new invention from Cid that allow us to fly in the circle and fight in the air ^^

The first boss in Tam Tara HM's a square, and I think there are a few in SV, both normal and HM that are squares as well. :P
I agree, I would like more variety. Not just in shape, but also height and depth. I would appreciate fights that had mechanics that took advantage of multiple levels. Like to escape an oncoming flood you had to run to higher ground.
A true paladin... will sheathe his sword.
I don't get why the arenas have to be regular shapes of any sort at all... Why can't we just have some natural looking arenas in caves, rooms or fields that have some variety to them?
Dzemael Darkhold has some interesting boss fights because the arenas are large and complex and the environment actually becomes part of the fight. Why can't we have more of that?
Enough with your standard square arenas, let's really push the boat out and have a triangle arena.
Yeah, the square boat made me go "really? what is wrong with a regular looking boat!". Heck You had a boat model to walk around in with ferries in XIV, could have used that.I don't get why the arenas have to be regular shapes of any sort at all...
