Controller stopped working in startmeny

I've tried searching the forums for this problem but I can't find anything. Anyway, I'm playing the game with a (official) PS3-controller on my PS3-console. Everything works fine when I start the game and log in on my account and hit "Play", but after that my controller stops working. The only button that works is the PS3-button so I've tried to shut off the controller and put it back on again, but nothing happens.

All other buttons are unresponsive, but the controller works fine with all other games. So it's like FFXIV doesn't feel that there is a controller.

I also don't have a keyboard or mouse to my PS3 so basically I just renewed my subscription for an unplayable game

Update: I deleted the game from my PS3 and spent some hours downloading and reinstalling a fresh version of the game, it didn't help. The controller still stops working as soon as I log into my SQ-account and start up the actual game. I think I've done everything I can on my side :/

Nope, still not working. I've tried starting the controller both when it's connected to the console with a usb-cable and when it's in wireless mode.

I also had help from a friend who came by with his controller (the same default one that you get when you buy a PS3) same problem there. It works with other games and in FFXIV when you sign into the SquareEnix-account, but as soon the startmeny launches the controller goes totally unresponsive

The odd thing is that I've played FFXIV before with a controller, for like 6 months ago and it worked fine then. It seems it's some of the updates/patches that screwed the controllerfuntion over.

delete the save data for ff14 from your ps3's save data management screen, this will remove any settings changed, gear sets, macro's and hotbars but may resolve the issue.

Ack! I was sure that would work, I even removed my character data (after backing it up of course), but no still nothing. This is the furthest I get, then the controller goes unresponsive:

Only the one in the back that shows it's set to player one.

could you try holding the controllers reset button while on the dashboard and re-pair while the game is running.

I got finally got into the game, I bought a new controller which was my last resort solution and it actually works. Apparently there is some issue with older controllers, mine is from 2010 and the one I borrowed from my friend is quite old too. The strangest thing is that the old controller works fine in every other game.

Oh well, at least I will get some use for my 2-month subscription now.

Thanks for all the advice Squa11_Leonhart, I might do another go at trying to get the old controller to work (it's more responsive than the newer one so I'll probably keep using it for other games).
