    Fun idea!

    One of my fondest gaming memories was back in 2006/7 trying to conquer the Cave of Ordeals in Twilight Princess, and more recently conquering the Treacherous Tower in A Link Between Worlds both on Hero Mode. There's something about a 'wave mode' that appeals to me - and the difficulty of it.

    For those that don't know, they're basically dungeons where you face one wave of enemies at a time - Wave 1 is extremely easy and Wave 50 isn't easy at all.

    It could be pretty fun and unique if the Dev team here at FFXIV could incorporate some kind of similar system as an alternate way of earning loot and bragging rights over a server. There's plenty of opportunity here to be creative, and if there's no weekly lockout, could be something quite a lot of people could enjoy purely as a mini-game.

    White Knight Chronicles had that sort of system in place for certain missions, it was insanely hard right when it released. I wouldn't mind having a Survival Instance line, but I'd sooner see something "Sphere 211" in FFXIV than waves of mobs. (Note that the waves in WKC appeared in the distance on the map before they were targetable. FFXIV could do the same.)

    I don't want it to turn hardcore like Coil though.

    Oh, well in the Legend of Zelda titles, there's normal mode and hero mode. Normal is a bit of a doddle and hero is where the difficulty is ramped up.

    And as for the other references, you've lost me on those :P

    There is something that taito did in Lufia 2 that would be pretty awesome in FFXIV.

    The 100 floor dungeon it goes like this.

    1. You go in as level 1, you have no gear except a level 1 weapon your gear is left in a holdbox till you either die or return outside.
    2. You find chest to gear yourself but you can't keep the gear, the only gear you can keep is from a Blue treasure box.
    3. Every 10 floors is a providence which warps you out of the dungeon if you lose all your teammates but get to keep blue chest.
    4. Blue chest in higher floors have better weapons, gear and items.
    5. It also involves a quest to collect a set of armor and you get rewarded if you finish this task.

    It doesn't save your progress so if you die you have to climb again, you would have to keep going in order to reach 100 but in ffxi they could change that to if you reach 35 floors it saves but if not start over.

    Or

    A survival dungeon where you keep fighting monsters and seeing how far your team can get until you die and it saves your record but if you get far enough you get prizes and people can break your record. make armor and weapons invincible while you are inside also no spirit bonding make a prize where you can 100% spirit bond a item make it rare.
