    Ninja -- what role will it play? mid-range dps, melee dps?

    After watching the job trailer from today, and Mr. Happy's breakdown of some of the ninja skills from various other trailers, I'm kind of stuck wondering what exact type of role ninja will play? Many of the mudra skills seem elemental damage based (like the elemental wheel from FFXI) and of course it has melee hitting skills.

    Do you think ninja will fall more into line with monks/dragoons, or more with rdps like BLM and BRD? Maybe a hybrid mid-range that dodges out to use elemental ninjutsu and then in to melee? Will make tanking very interesting with all those lights -- I'm hoping not everyone sees them (pretty sure only the ninja sees those mudra flashes...). Thoughts?

    From videos so far it will be a mix of Melee and Mid range DPS.

    The attack combos it use for the basic attack is Melee while the other skills that can be weaved with the combo skills will mostly be Range or Mid Range.

    a pure melee class, it's not because some ninjutsu can be casted and hit target from far that it make the class a mid range dps... you need more for this.
    it's not different than a skill that can be spamed like tomahawk of the warrior, you can use it at range, but it will not make it viable into this role.

    other, the ninjutsu skill seems to have a cooldown of 5-10 sec and some of the ninjutsu seems to recquire to land at melee some debuf for be used... then i high doubt that the class will be another thing than melee. all him ninjustu and dagger throw offer him ,it's flexibility in case he must move away from the target for avoid aoe.

    People have already answered the range question but it terms of role, i see it being the melee support class, as the poisons are DOT's they will most likely be debuffs. AFAIK a lot of the mudras will also have debuff capabilities aswell, so the job will most likely become the summoner of melee. (which is kind of has the be when compared to the other melee)

    this is all conjecture though and could be wrong.

    It's a Melee / DOT DPS and the mid-range is not really too mid-range. It's not a dodge/eva tank, and likely won't have any dodge skills like PGL/MNK does. Those 'hand signals" by the way are individual skills themselves that you have to use in combinations to use specific other skills. Messing up the combo will force you to do the combination all over again.

    Yes, as other said it will be melee, being in mid or long range won't be good for a melee when auto attacks means usually 30% of the damages. It will just have some range attacks just like other melees, also it's not because it looks like spells that they have a big range, maybe the elemental ninjutsus will have a little range.

    i see 15 yalms like other ranged attack of the melee, nothing of amazing i guess ^^
    that why i don't see another stats than STR for it, that said.

    We have not yet seen any videos of attacks that are even 10 yalms in distance for Rogue / ninja besides the knife throwing, which looks like an 8-10 yalm radius.

    i just used the counter part of the other class already present, shield throw, javelin and tomahawk have 15 yalms as max range. i don't see them go over this point, below, still possible, who know.
