It's a shame they will never ask us again ingame.
Looking at some of these stats is hillarious, because the developers might think people actually use the potions they get showered upon them from quests as it's the #1 item in inventories. I'm sure the 428billion gill is also related to how the developers think we are all rich.

Suggests they actually did a proper job working out how much Gil players have actually; 428 billion divided among 2 million players is a pathetic amount. For him to have been surprised some people only have 300 thousand suggests the numbers he saw were based off of proper statistics.
unless he did it the way I think which would be divide total gil on active accounts across the ACTIVE accounts (2m registered does not mean 2M are active) in which case RMT bank characters and outlying statistics would be includedSuggests they actually did a proper job working out how much Gil players have actually; 428 billion divided among 2 million players is a pathetic amount. 300B/500k is a lot better than 400B/2M (random numbers used please no crucifixions)

That still isn't a particularly staggering amount of Gil per player, though.
At the end of the day, they've made a game which literally throws Gil at it's players (Duty Roulette, Challenge Log, etc.). They have every right to think players should be rich, if you're not you're either new or doing something wrong, or just purchases some land. Either way, the poor are in the minority, no matter how vocal they may be at the moment.

While you are correct 300B/500K is still only 600k gil per active character (outliers as you mention would inflate this as well, driving the mean down). I wouldn't say that is "a lot better" given the level of what I read to be his surprise.unless he did it the way I think which would be divide total gil on active accounts across the ACTIVE accounts (2m registered does not mean 2M are active) in which case RMT bank characters and outlying statistics would be included

Lol at them "having the right" to think something when the have data to show what it actually is. It is this kind of "thinking" by companies that lead to their downfall and failure. Just because someone has the right to assume something doesn't mean that doing so is the right course of action.

Actually, to me it suggests they pulled numbers out of thin air and thought "Everyone must be rich by now".Suggests they actually did a proper job working out how much Gil players have actually; 428 billion divided among 2 million players is a pathetic amount. After all, if dividing that sum up evenly results in a horribly low sum, then it's clear that a far smaller number have the Lion's share of the wealth. Thus, only a few are considered 'rich' while the majority should be considered poor. Even taking into account active accounts versus inactive, it's still a pitiful sum of gil overall which only goes to show how out of touch they must've been when working on their maths.
What he's saying is they used REAL statistics...a proper distribution...rather than a flat average which would have generated that low number per person. They DID nix the outliers on both ends of the gil spectrum and probably generated a window of 1 standard deviation on either side of the mean to use for targeting the pricing for the small houses.Actually, to me it suggests they pulled numbers out of thin air and thought "Everyone must be rich by now".

Probably also dropped anyone without a level 50 from these numbers first and the total level 50 population cannot be more than 1.698 million. What he's saying is they used REAL statistics...a proper distribution...rather than a flat average which would have generated that low number per person. I like how wanderers palace is #1 run dungeon by almost double 2nd place... got to love those RMT farm groups
