Why is Housing Such a High Priority?

I didn't think it was high priority, and if it is.
That sucks balls because it wouldn't have to be if they fook it up beyond belief
and LIED to us. People have been waiting for ever for housing even in 1.0.

This speaks truth.

I think its obvious they didn't do much with personal housing, since there is literally no difference between it and FC housing except for ownership. While I applaud the systems that are in place for gardening, chocobo rearing and so forth, the lack of instanced housing and disregard of anyone but the very rich is very concerning.

I saw no "patch 2.1" nonsense in the post that explained the FC housing prices.

If you're wondering about the importance of housing, it works pretty much the same as mini games or side quests, to keep you from burning content too fast or keeping you entertained if you already burned through content.

You say that "I just feel like it should take a major back seat to other content", but where do we draw the line? They will always be working on battle content, if they went with that no other content would ever get released, side content would always be delayed in favor of vertical progress / new classes.

I understand the purpose of housing from a marking perspective, I'm surprised however, to find that some many people on these forums really are that into it. It seems like everyone else I talk to agrees with me.

Well really to meet the RP crowd and the Endgame crowd halfway, Housing Zones should have started as barren fields and we should have been allowed to build them as we wished

1. Theme the zone as we wish e.g make a volcano zone or make a creepy pirate ship zone (satisfies RP crowd).

2. In addition, placing certain structures (not just buildings) should have unlocked FC content/FC dungeons eg place a cave to unlock a dungeon (satisfies endgame crowd)

That would have made housing "relevant". At the moment it is hard to disagree with the OP. There is a lot of potential untapped. Its even more jarring that FC housing zones are the same as Private Housing zones. They should at least be different thematically.

Is this thread for real? They completely phoned it in on this patch. There was clearly no priority or thought given to housing.

No, I feel the same way. But you see, actual substance and content doesn't sell in this game. Only vanity - look at all the "Show off your character" threads and whatnot, billion pages long - its all people care about in this game for the most part, minion, slippers, shiny doodads, bikinis and bras, and now housing - gotta place my furniture yo! Hell it even got to me at one point, I spent alot of gil and jumped through alot of hoops to color my AF gear, at the end of the day I was like "did I really just fall for this trap?"

This point has been addressed before. Having some developers work on housing does NOT slow down the other projects to be implemented in the game. The developers are split in teams, each working on a separate field of the game. The developers that work on housing will not be in charge of creating new dungeons, or design new armor, or write new quests. There is a team for each of those things.

As for "resources and efforts" being put into housing, I'm not sure what you mean. All they did was to add a button on the Placard to allow individuals to buy a plot without having to form an FC and raise its rank to 6. And that's after nine months of supposed "in the works".
