MRD is a tank class and such will que as the tank in the dungeons, trials and and such. They can obviously deal damage, but tanking is what will be expected. As for Free Companies (guilds?). I have no idea I avoid them.

For Marauder, utilize your skill combination for increased damage and better tanking. Also remember to do your class quest as you will unlock important skills necessary for tanking (like Tomahawk). No idea about any decent guilds (it's called Free Company here) in Lich server but hopefully anyone from there can give you a help.

On gearing, be sure to only wear item that states GLD PLD MRD WAR only for left side gears (armors) (without LNC DRG at the back, those are only for lancer/dragoon and has lower defense rate) and equip VIT based accessories when you reach higher level, starting level 29.

    Welcome to Eorzea!

Following on from what has already been stated about completing your class quests, the level 10 class quest is especially useful as completing this unlocks the Armoury System, which is the ability to switch your class to another at will by simply equipping it's weapon or tool.

Additionally, it's also worthwhile keeping up to date with the main storyline (quests with a meteor icon, the same shape as the 'O' in 'REBORN' in the game's title at the top of this page), as besides proceeding the narrative behind Eorzea and it's many mysteries, it specifically unlocks new content at certain points - the first one is the ability to undertake Guildleves and the use of the Inn by completing the level 10 story quest for your starting city, and there is much more that is made available as your progress along the Path of an adventurer. This site is a good guide to what content is locked by level or quest completion.

As for joining player 'guilds', there are two different types of player guilds in FFXIV: linkshells (lses) and Free Companies (FCs). Linkshells are pretty much just a private chat channel with limited functions, however the advantage is you can be in multiple lses at once (up to 8). Free Companies on the other hand are limited to only allowing you to be a member of one at a time, however they provide far greater benefits, such as the use of a shared storage bank (the Company Chest), the use of special buffs that can increase things like gained EXP and reduce teleportation fees, the ability to put the FC's crest on your armour, and, probably the best function, they can get their own house! And you can be in a Free Company and a linkshell at the same time.

FCs and lses usually advertise for new members in the server forums on this site, so a good first step is to browse the forum for your server (Lich in your case) and I'm sure you should be able to find one that's right for you. Lich's server forum can be found here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/f...9-Lich%28EU%29

Also before you sub, make sure you use someone's recruitment code. You can enter it at the Mog station when you go to add your first payment. It will give both you and the persons code you used a couple of pretty cool in game items.
I have attached a couple of links where people have left their code.

Anyhoo... here's another site OP can refer for much information:
    http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/

And just want to add couple of things. At level 30, it is very recommended that you do your 1st job quest, which is Warrior (WAR), in or der to unlock a very important skill called Defiance. This is the true strength for tanking on that class/job since it will add 25% of your health in exchange of lowering your attack power. Defiance also enables you to stack Wrath status whenever you use the combo skills that will enable WAR-exclusive skills that can help mitigate the damage reduction.

Unlocking Warrior job also requires you to level Gladiator to level 15.

And while on this subject, every class can borrow skills from other class. But jobs can only borrow from 2 class. In WAR case, only gladiator and pugilist skills can be borrowed. Recommended to level gladiator to 22 to get Provoke skill and pugilist to level 8 for getting Second Wind (a quick healing skill for DD - Damage Dealer class/jobs)

There's not much to discuss until you have reached level cap, which is 50, and finished all your class & job quests along with story quests. Only by then you will require to learn every aspect of your marauder/warrior skills.

In general, MRD/WAR are tank job that utilizes their health boost to give them more advantage, thus the reason this class/job having the biggest HP pool from all. It also has advantage of keeping enmity check with group of mobs better than Paladin, but all of this depend on how you play it.

It's at level 15 that the distinction of tank specific gear (GLD PLD MRD WAR) begins, as that's also the level of the first full dungeon. So once you reach 15, you'll want to get yourself a set of bronze armor to run Sastasha with.

I should also add that some GLD/PLD/MRD/WAR/LNC/DRG gear is in fact tank gear (Tortoiseshell gear at 46 being a prime example). Easy way to find out is to check the defense numbers: If both are the same, it's tank gear. If physical defense is higher, it's lancer/dragoon gear.
