The aches and pains of crafting!

I love ARR but it's crafting system has pissed me off more times then i care to mention. Its mainly down to the reliance on luck based mechanics and having to level every crafting class to 50 if you want to stand a chance with 3 star recipes.

I have leveled all the classes to max and am met with the materia melding system. Based on the current server's economy prices for materia range from the decent to the ridiculous, but that's just part of the issue. I'm met with a percentage chance to meld on materia that cost a fortune and have lost hundreds of thousands of gill in failures. You don't have any control over that fact its simply luck that will bankrupt you on your road to 3 star crafting.

I apologize if this is a bit wordy but i wanted to know if anybody else felt the same. I just want to be able to craft the best items off my own hard work not by chance. This thread is for those people that have had similar problems and maybe could offer help and advice to other crafters.

Pretty much the best advice I can give you is to make your own materia by Spiritbonding. It takes time, but nowhere near as much gil. You're going to meet some failure with overmelding, there's no way around it, just keep trying. Invest in some Aetheryte Rings if you haven't already for the increased Spiritbond.

Yeah i have been spirit-bonding to get some materia but that depends on if people are around to assist you. I have to overmeld to get enough cp to be able to get silver brocade high quality and its just super depressing seeing all your materia break after 20 or so attempts with no fault on your part. By the way for anyone reading make sure you know exactly what to meld into your gear because it can get very expensive if you meld without knowing.

Cheers for the tip though bro

    How to get 345cp

Does anybody know the best way to get your cp to 345 in order to craft higher level star recipes?

Your melds are expensive because you blindly followed a guide without considering prices. Usually people meld their gear for a fraction of what that guide suggests.

As for CP just eat some food to reach the cap. Stone Soup if you have the CP and want something you can buy from NPCs, otherwise check this page out http://ffxivcrafting.com/food

You don't need people to assist you to do spiritbonding. Wear a patrician's set and do level 50 crafting, such as making more spiritbond sets, crafting mats like ingots and leather, doing GC turn-ins... lots of things.

Spiritbonding via crafting is ABSURDLY slow and takes ages and costs ridiculous amounts of mats and shards (which cost you additional time to farm or gil)
As a whitemage I can spiritbind a ~lvl 45 set (guaranteed Tier III materia with small chance of IV) in an hour by grinding lv 49 mobs.

Anaylzed bindingspeeds and + spiritbind stat does nothing when killing mobs. -> Useless, bind 2 crafting rings, 2 more materia per set.

Being forced to overmeld in order to reach the stats needed is a VERY frustrating design and the intention behind it is to keep crafters broke.
Patch 2.4 will most likely add new gear you have to overmeld AGAIN just to continue to drain gil out of the economy.

Crafting 1 star mats NQ you can spiritbond 2 sets of 45 gear in an hour. Main tool, offhand (not my normal melded, one with a cheap materia for bonding) and patrician's body is enough craftsmanship to do the recipes. Not sure if the ilvl55 main tool is enough, I use the ilvl70.

If you buy the raw mats via AH, yes. But since I am a rather fresh player and gil is still precious I'd have to farm myself.
Amount of time needed for crafting and gathering > 1hr killing mobs.
