I'd say it really depends on what you want to get out of your DoH classes to be honest. If you want to max everything out and obtain the best DoH gear pieces, then yes expect it to take a lot of time. If you want to make a decent amount of gil by simply crafting occasionally or provide consumables for yourself, then not so much.

And quite a decent amount of gil can be made out of lower level crafting as well. HQ'ing items and selling on the market can be quite profitable. Meanwhile spiritbonding crafting gear can be a good source of income, depending on your sever situation. And consumables can be advantageous for yourself in regards to saving gil on purchases, but can also net in quite some profit.

Certainly you may not make as much gil as some top end crafters that way, but you can certainly get away with gathering enough out of crafting to purchase yourself a small house if desired. And still keep doing other content such as PvE or PvP.
