    Dedicating yourself to a DoH

    Hey everyone,

I have a question, are DoH jobs something you are suppose to dedicate yourself to? As in crafting is something you do most of the time you are on instead of pvping, raiding etc?

It depends on what DoH and DoL classes you have going. At first it takes some dedication and a bit of Gil. When I first started doing ARM, it helped to have LTW and MIN going at the same time, as they help out each class with materials. Otherwise you are going to have to buy them and that can get pricey. I'm working on my 4th DoH now getting it to 50, can do it in less than a day if you have enough Leve allowances.

Crafting is all I've been doing for a little while now, still can't get to the last couple of main story quests. So I figured I would craft for a bit. Made some good Gil, though spent alot on iLVL 50 gear that I don't have a crafting class for.

A lot of time is needed but to ignore other activities is up to you. To become a master craftsman in a any of the DoH classes does take a lot more dedication.

I'd say it really depends on what you want to get out of your DoH classes to be honest. If you want to max everything out and obtain the best DoH gear pieces, then yes expect it to take a lot of time. If you want to make a decent amount of gil by simply crafting occasionally or provide consumables for yourself, then not so much.

And quite a decent amount of gil can be made out of lower level crafting as well. HQ'ing items and selling on the market can be quite profitable. Meanwhile spiritbonding crafting gear can be a good source of income, depending on your sever situation. And consumables can be advantageous for yourself in regards to saving gil on purchases, but can also net in quite some profit.

Certainly you may not make as much gil as some top end crafters that way, but you can certainly get away with gathering enough out of crafting to purchase yourself a small house if desired. And still keep doing other content such as PvE or PvP.

DOH are addicting like Crack lol. If you start to level one of them, you realize pretty early that having only one crafter doesn't bring you anywhere. Crafters start to make sense (earning GIL and beeing able to craft something for yourself) when you have them all levelled up to 50 because of the cross skills you need essentially for high end crafting. Additionally, it makes sense to level and equip all DOL as well so you can supply yourself instead of having to buy every single mat from the market board.

But the Journey doesn't end there. In opposite to combat classes that earn their gear through Dungeons quite easily, you have to put a lot of time and efforts into the DOH gear including overmelding. If you want to have crafters that are able to craft 2-3 star recipies, you better bring in some Patience and Gil or otherwise you might be dissapointed. Crafting is nothing that can be done quickly unless you only aim to craft receipes below Level 50. It is a long time process - it took me almost half a Year to overmeld my gear without having to pay millions of GIL by spiritbonding a hell lot of items for example. But imo it is worth it - but this is a question you can only answer yourself after trying it out. I'd say you need some dedication for sure if you want to be a crafter and it is nothing you do "a little bit". Either full package or let it be.

If you wanna be a serious crafter, you'll have to get all DOH to lvl50 to get your cross class skills. I leveled mine in "packs". I leveling weaver and goldsmith, culinarian and alchemist together. I left alchemist and culinarian at lvl40, then got weaver and goldsmith to 50. Then culinarian and alchemist to 50. I did the same with the last ones; arm bsm crp and ltw all to 40, then crp and ltw to 50, then bsm and then arm. I say the hardest part is to meld your stuff. I first max melded my accessories, so all my glasses have that melded. Then I max melded culinarian, so I got my artisan spectacles for all of my classes and my artisan main hand for cul. Right now I'm melding my weaver (chest pants and gloves are already melded, only off hand and boots left) to get my artisan main hand. After that it's going to be goldsmith, then either carpenter or leatherworker. If you wanna meld all of your classes, I'd say to level goldsmith and miner first. Craft your own accessories to spiritbind and only buy your IV materias if you're not lucky. I'd say it's very time consuming and is a long process. Especially if you're spiritbinding; it takes time spiritbinding, but also crafting the stuff to SB, and gather shards to craft said stuff. When I got into crafting I stopped caping my soldiery and didnt even set foot in ST, I was only raiding coil 2 with my static because all my time was dedicated to gathering, spiritbinding and crafting raid food to make gil to buy IV materias I couldn't get myself. I love it though.

Dedicate as much as you want to to what you like to do.

I have 50 in all crafts but none are fully maxed. 6 are in a mix of AF and Patrician's gear.

I don't do much dungeon running, I do more gathering than crafting lately, but that's just me. I have a friend who is master in every craft, I think he does little else.

Perhaps the Ixal beast tribe quests are fulfilling my crafting addiction, who knows?

You really can be casual about crafting, just do it sensibly.

Of course you don't have to. Most people don't.

Originally the game was hyped to have crafting be it's whole separate thing, there would be crafters and adventurers. That didn't really pan out, though crafting is much more in depth than, say,WoW.

A year in, the crafting grind is such that it'd take some serious dedication to get max melds in all classes. And the Addition of the Ixali Quest line gets us closer to the prior ideal.

All in all, they've paid a lot of attention to crafters and their class and what they can do.

Crafting itself is a math puzzle game with an RNG factor. Gathering isn't a game at all. (It was more so in 1.0)

All I want to do in this game is craft, and I find where it's currently at fairly fulfilling. If you want to craft 24/7 you'll probably want to spring for an extra retainer or 2. Otherwise you'll make more than you can sell.
