What to do with old HQ gear not used anymore

Hey folks. I'm finally getting some crafting and gathering classes past level 40 and I have a lot of HQ gear that is 100% spiritbound that I would like to know what is the best thing to do with it (what will get me the most gil)? Some of the pieces I will keep for leveling future classes but there are several that I don't want to just vender away. Can the spiritbound part be undone so I can sell on the market boards? Or some kind of breaking them down into mats? Thx for your help

Once you spirit bond, you can't sell it, there's no way to remove it. You can desynth for materia, and sell that.

    Convert them to materia.

It might be different on your server but on mine a lot of the tier 2 materia are more expensive than the tier 3s. Even if you get junk materia you can meld them onto other items to make them spiritbond faster.

Definitely best thing to do with it is to convert it. From the sounds of your post it sounds kind of like you're not aware of that option. There is a minor quest to unlock the ability first. http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Forging_the_Spirit

Thank you all! Yes I do see the convert option when I right click them, I've been away for a while and forgot a lot of stuff and I wasn't sure if converting was profitable or not. Thanks, converting it is!

Materia sells for crazy amounts because of Novus weapon or convert and stockpile them in case you decide to do Novus.

convert then keep or sell the materia since novus requires alot of materia to complete so depending on the materia u get could sell for a stack of gil :P

i personally have kept every materia i got from starting out in cb to nows just havent looked at all of them to see if any1 are the stats i need for novus XD

I really hope nobody out there is making a +Gathering Novus...

OP, crafting and gathering materia sell like crazy. Because it takes tons and tons of them to fully meld the level 50 crafting/gathering gear (especially if you're trying to max out more than one DoH/DoL class). So you can sell them and get load of gil now, and that's cool. Be aware, though, that if you're going to push your crafting or gathering to Master levels and such, you're probably going to end up buying a lot of it back at some point.

I keep hearing about Novus requiring a lot of materia, but is there a simple guide to how much and what types of materia to hold onto in preparation for that? I've been just accumulating all the materia I've spiritbonded, because I don't know what to sell and what to keep.

This is pretty good. Google had several more that looked promising by their blurbs.

Unfortunately, there's no exact amount of materia you need. You can put up to 75 total stats, but the materia you need is broken into tiers. At first, you use tier 1 materia for whatever stat, but after first couple, it has a chance to not meld successfully. So by the time you're one materia away from needing tier 2s, you've got like a 50% chance of success (ish). Then you start at 100% with tier 2s, and that chance drops, and so on. And that process is the same for each stat you want to put on.

Edit: On second look, that doesn't go into the tiers & how many you need at each one. I've seen one somewhere, but can't find it right now. But it's worth noting that even when you're adding tier 2, 3, 4 materia, each one you add only adds +1 of that stat.
