White arrow over functional housing items, off button?

Does anyone know how to turn off the white arrow that appears above functional housing items like stone vigil beacon, chocobo stable, company chest etc? It is a silly thing but it is driving me nuts.

Also any word on whether awnings will be paint-able?

Yes - it was driving me crazy too - it's in the character config / Display names at NPC section - all the way down are two options, one for Housing items and one for Outr items. Both are set to "always" and I change them to "when targeted".
