Hi!
I'm a big passionate of horizontal progression, that's why I'm an adventurer, an artisan and an explorer.
Unfortunately, with the transition from FFXIV to FFXIV:ARR, we all know that DoL got the axe from the development team. We lost our mini-games and it's now just a target and click feature.
I'd really like to have more for DoL and what a better way than having DoL FATE?
Wait wait wait, I know what you're thinking. FATE are currently in disfavor because of the huge grind involved, sometimes endless waiting and it's pushed on us by the devs for end-game content (read: atma & cie).
The problem with the current FATE is that they truly are only useful for leveling up. I think FATE should be triggered, not randomly spawned, but that's another story.
Just bear with me for now.
Think about a forest wildfire raging in an area. As a dev, I would totally make it block some path and inflict damage to players trying to cross it. To face it, here comes your friendly neighbor gatherer!
Cut down trees and herbs, dig trenches and remove fallen debris to stop the fire.
Not only it would be visually impressive, it would also allow for a change of pace for the gatherers.
You could have all sorts of natural disaster FATE and they would require the assistance of DoL to manage (fores wildfires, avalanches, floods, ...). If not, the area becomes more hazardous to adventure in, items from the area that are sold by NPCs become more expensive, etc.
Long term consequences.
I liked how FFXI had the conquest thing, where goods would become unavailable in regions held by the beastmen. Well, we could have something similar here with natural disasters.
It would also make Eorzea more exciting and less a cake walk between instances or hunt marks.
As a final comment, players not wanting to be influenced too much by this can always teleport, buy materials from other DoL players, etc.
Thank you!

Sorry, I just can't help but laugh when I pictured a bunch of characters in a circle sewing a quilt.
