I bought my house for 1.5M. There are STILL houses for sale on adamantoise for 1.5M. And we're in the middle server category price wise.

I wish I could buy a house for 1.5mil *cries*

Instead I'm currently looking at 30-80million *cries more*

Player housing should have its OWN areas with its OWN pricing. The biggest mistake was slapping it in with FC housing and acquiring its price tag. What a lame move.

People with less than 500K gil are far more common, and definitely not the outlier.

Considering you get 100k/week in 'free' gil from just playing the game (roulette, dungeon gil, etc.) that means anyone with so little is basically new to the game. Anyone who has been playing for a few months should easily be able to make that much on a weekly basis in a few hours.

The very first thing I did when I started to play was live by a basic principle: I will not be poor. So I did this strange, arcane thing called investing into crafting. Now I sit down for 5-10 minutes and shit out 500k profit (hint: this requires first sinking nearly 10mil into full 3star on DoH and DoL before you start complaining about how crafting is so easy).

Gil is trivial if you bother to figure out how to make it, and you've known that an implementation of personal housing was going to come in 2.38. So if you really just let yourself have almost no gil with months of advance notice, then well, obviously you didn't really want a house that badly in the first place.

Judging by the outcry on these forums and on the JP forums, I'd say no, they are not the outliers. Also, wait, what's up with the 500k amount? I haven't seen anybody float a number that low around until you.

I work full time and have 360k gil currently. I used to do duty roulettes actively (purposely waiting for the healer bonus) and had over 1 mil at one point (also due to selling Weaver crafting log items). I farmed my own materia for my mining set mostly and recently focused on leveling 4 crafts to 50. All of that meant doing roulette a lot less. I also used to do 2nd Coil every week and primal farms which didn't produce much gil at all (I'm not into selling carries). I also try to complete as much of the Challenge Log as I can each week.
I think once a person has all crafts to 50 then they have more time on their hands to purely do activities that make gil (such as standing in front of the Market Board for hours undercutting people or selling expensive items from **/*** crafting). I also gather Treasure Maps daily which have never dropped a rare item worth selling.

Sure, I could have 4mil to spend in a single blow... but that's ridiculous to ask of me or any of us.

You're all forgetting the add'l 450k for the Construction Permit too.

Without the ability to personally Garden, I had to spend crazy amounts to dye my Chocobo.

Why can't I enjoy some of my 4 mil & possess a house.

It's ludicrous to insist we cash in everything.

Other sad thing is we're often left with the crappy plots b/c of players buying multiple houses to themselves.

Why is it ludicrous? People in real life have to get massive loans to afford a house and then pay the bank large sums in interests. They would like to have a house and enjoy trips to places and have all the luxuries too, but usually people end up house poor and have to eat instant ramen to make ends meet. Otherwise you pay rent to stay at place and rent is a big chunk of the income too. And you really can't run around homeless in real life like you can in game.

It only makes sense that people that want house put their gil where their mouth is and go all in on it. Most people in game are not lucky enough to be blessed by the RNG to have enough gil to do that.

You didn't have to. You chose to.

There are many complaints to be made about this system. But spending your gil is largely a choice on this game. There's almost nothing to spend it on other than vanity.

Vanity, crafting, novus upgrades are the primary uses of large amounts of gill, you actually can go without spending any for a while. and the little you do spend such as teleporting and maybe food, you make back by just playing the game. all the gear and weapons that will work out are mostly free.

It's also worth considering that the current prices are a reflection of extremely limited supply. There's no point in setting the price to 1 million gil or less if you're going to have so few plots. If you're going to have people fighting over limited availability, and given that this also serves as a gil sink, might as well siphon off as much gil as possible for now. But that's also why the land is on a fast depreciation schedule (half price in a month), and supply will increase. Once supply increases to keep pace with demand, then the prices will drop.

Really, the main issue is that, no matter how busy the server, and thus how high the demand, they all have the same amount of supply. If they could solve the issue of supply (have the right amount of wards/plots for each server), then it would also resolve this issue of price over time. (If you knew that there would still be plots available in a month when it goes from 4 million to 2 million, you could just wait for it.)

Feh. AFAIC, plots really should be dirt-cheap or free. The upgrades and furniture should be the cost, IMO.
Make it something everyone has free access to, but which you can take as far as you want.

...If people don't like ridiculous wealth distribution like this, then they should share the wealth. Help your FC, share with your FC, get a big house together as a FC, and do what a MMO is supposed to do. Build a community, join with like minded people, and let those whiney crafters cry about how they can't sell stuff worth a darn, when they have been making off like bandits.
