Not really, if you wait for an alchemist to make an item you won't get the item til later and you can still do whatever it is you were going to do that evening.

If you wait for the paladin you're stuck not doing what you had planned for the evening.

But like BloodLotus mentioned you'd still be able to obtain all your crafting classes to the final rank, just one will be mastered (have a star next to it let's say) that gives you additional recipes on top of the ones you already have and doesn't restrict you from any other craft. Something like this will rebalance the system and promote healthy economic growth.
I disagree but i gotta go to work and back to the real world now.
    See ya later all.

I like your idea though... but I would like it if you only had access to one crafts facilities. That's the gist of this thread.
Currently in FFXIV, a player can only have access to one crafter facility at a time.

But using my example, if you had access to the Twin Adder's Patriarch's Laboratory, you would not also be able to access the Immortal Flames Patriarch's Forge ... simply because you cannot be a member of both organizations at the same time.

With minor adjustments I believe we can leverage existing systems to achieve your goals.

I'd be much happier with a system like this as opposed to permanent specializations/masteries. This way a group of people (linkshell) could be self sufficient if they wanted to be, as you're much more likely to have members in all three companies.

ok, I agree but what if the linkshell group needed that item to get into that dungeon?

Once again, I agree but it is fun to speculate.

Anyway, time to rejoin the real world. Have fun everyone.

I agree, I'm enjoying the intelligent nonflamatory ideas/comments in this thread. But I'm also off to partake in the real world economy. Cya~

And if we really wanted to be bastardos/biatches ...

All facility use would have to be paid for with either Guild Marks or Company Seals, instead of just gil.

Any player for any given week can only earn X amount of Guild Marks, due to the fact that they can only be earned for guild-specific guildleves. A player that spreads his guildleves across three or four crafting classes will have less guild marks for each, and thus may not be able to take advantage of facilities that grant greater bonuses because they cost more marks. As opposed to a player that dedicates all of his guildleves to one craft and has a larger pool of guild marks to access the better facilities to allow the crafting of better items.

Again, that's if we want to be total pricks about this specialization thing.
