I've been a lv 50 WAR for nearly a week now.i guess one of the reasons why tanking is easier for me than other jobs, especially healing is that I've leveled other jobs to 50. All these dungeons and bosses are familair to me.

Boss fights are incredibly easy for me. Most is just tank n spank. Keeping aggro on mobs is much harder than on a boss.

Granted, I don't plan on doing any ex primals or scob as a tank.

I believe the biggest issue with tanking is threat. In my opinion, tanks shouldn't have to stress over threat. It's not unreasonable to have to work for it a bit, but in order to grab threat and keep it, you have to be near flawless. I won't even mention the fact that Warriors don't have access to a TAUNT unless they level up a gladiator. I know cross-class skills are a big part of this game - but locking down probably the most important ability to tanking classes in MMOs is ridiculous.

Instead of having tanks focus on holding threat, why not look into having them focus on active mitigation? It's a much more intelligent and fun system where you're reacting to enemy damage and using the proper abilities to counter it, rather than staring at a threat meter all day.

Don't get me wrong - I enjoy a challenge, and I enjoy tanking. When it's fun.

It's funny whenever I see someone saying tanking is easy I check their classes and very few have a tank class or they have one that is half levelled. I wonder why that is...?

Tanking the primals in NM was a joke. Of the dungeons I have done getting lost was my primary concern, keeping hate doesn't seem so bad, or atleast in NM dungeons as thats all I have done. I'm sure it gets harder with the extreme or hard mode, hence the name I guess.

It actually only gets harder not because of the difficulty of the mobs or bosses for dungeons, but moreso the real fight is with the people you play with. What I mean by this is that a new 50 going into any hard mode or expert dungeons and getting a few or even 1 i100-i110 dps is going to have a really, really hard time holding hate at times. Moreso if it is a roulette and everyone wants a speed run. I've found that all dungeons in the game through SV HM are easy if it weren't for the mentality and inability of some dps to watch aggro meters and/or not try to constantly speed run even if not everyone in the group is up to it.

Endgame tanking isn't as much about about threat issues as it is about correct positioning and damage mitigation. For me anyway. I rarely have trouble holding aggro unless a DPS jumps an add before I've even landed a hit and they have a bunch of CD's up and crit. But that is easy to avoid if you build a combo beforehand.

Tanking may be seen as easy and maybe it is. Good tanking is not though.

Just got my MRD and GLD to level 30. I have noticed that the #1 problem that I am suffering from is DPS or Healer who can not wait 2 seconds, so I can pull the mobs. They attack the mobs and if things go wrong, I get verbaly insulted. I have had this since I was level 15, so I am not suprised that we have a shortage of tanks.

I have also noticed that alot of good skills which Tanks in other mmorpg unlock at low level, in FFXIV Tanks get those skills after level 30. Defiance/Oath Shield should have been a level 15 skill. These two skills make tanking alot easier and help the player with keeping threat.

If you're being verbally abused, just report and leave. Sure, it is sad to leave some of them, but you have an instant queue and don't need to put up with it. I don't do roulettes anymore, but if I encountered that, I'd offer to leave first and let them kick me if the group majority wished it. If not, I'd vote dismiss the mean person -- failing that, I'd just leave. No one has the right to abuse anyone else in a thing as silly as a video game ^^

I like to play both healer and tank. Healer for new content, tank for older content.
I'm starting to think I should do the opposite since all people want to do in older content is speedrun and have perfection handled to them.
(Especially the Japanese players, that's just insane. 1~2 wipes and you're guaranteed an abandon vote!)

I find that the best time to play tank is when I'm angry: I just get in, do my things without giving a damn about the other players.

Recently, I've been thinking of making a macro with tanking rules in English and Japanese for my runs: "Hi! Nice to meet you. Let's run this dungeon at an enjoyable pace, but no speedruns and we'll wait for the new guy (if any). Thanks!"

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
    (Marvelous economics IQ test!)
