Suggestion For Improvement: Soldiery Gear Exchange

One of the issues I've run into involving the current end game is that a player may find himself in the undesirable position of being a role that the currently recruiting static teams do not need. Because of how the caps work, a player who gets derelict for a long time will be forced to invest into a role before he knows what his future team actually requires. This holds back both his future static team and the player from enjoying the end game by stalling progress as the team waits for the player's gear score to recover.

One of Final Fantasy XIV's current strengths is the current class/job system that lets a player take on any of the roles in the game. Providing a limited gear exchange would allow that flexibility to help strengthen the raiding community by avoiding the aforementioned gear lock. Even if exchanging only one item per week was possible, it would be a great help.

    I'll second this.

It would be preferable to sell them back to the vendor. Even at 50% value, it would be a huge help. Of course, this could only work if the devs allowed this one system to bypass the weekly limit on the newest currency - something I doubt they're willing to put any effort into.

In that case, I'd be happy with a one piece/week exchange.

This has other problems you havent taken account of, people who are recruiting for teams arent just after geared roles, they are after good players, people should feel invested in a role, as it gives a better impression to the recruiter that this person knows what they are doing and are good with the role they are playing with, people have requirements, people need to meet those requirements, in order to meet them, they need to get good, by being able to willy nilly change your gear easily as you say, this doesnt give the further investment to improve their gameplay in that specific job.

Oh, right, I forgot that item level = skill and that that we're all terrible at 8/9 jobs. Silly me.

This has far more to do with the armory system and the cap on currency than anything regarding raid statics. A system like the OP describes would be nice, yes, and I see no logical reason to oppose it.
