Chocobo Coloration Conundrum

I looked around for a comprehensive chocobo coloring guide and found this site:

I was going for slate grey which calls for "O'Ghomoro Berries x21, Xelphatol Apple x7, Mamook Pear x7". So I bought those fruit at a cost of 60k gil and shoved them down my bird's throat.

Then I went to bed, and when I got up... it wasn't slate grey but gloom purple.

How would I get from gloom purple to slate grey? I don't have a lot of resources - my highest job is only 38 BLM.

There's a random factor to this as each feed item will increase or decrease the color palette within a specific range. Your desired color is Slate Gray (94R,94G,94B) but you got Gloom Purple (74R,62G,89B). This means you need to feed more xelphatol apples and mamook pears. I can't say whether or not you need more O'ghomoro berries, although you may try to feed some if you ere towards brown.
