    Trade Agreements and Loans

Just keeping a record of this on here for myself and to spread awareness while doing so.

Due to people needing additional gil for housing, I asked the GM Team whether they would help us out if a trade agreement went sour after being made.

A trade agreement for example where someone requires gil in the form of a loan, and promises to payback the loan (no RMT involved). Or buying/selling a win on content perhaps.

    I got this response:

As trade scams are a violation in the user agreement. GMs will take actions against players who engage in such activities. As you have noted, however, we need a written proof of the agreement between two players to determine if a trade scam did occur. As such, we strongly recommend that you confirm an agreement in the chat logs with another player before you initiate a trade, including details such as:

    - Amount of gil or items that is to be given
    - Amount of gil or items that is to be paid back and when it should be returned

However, though we will always do our best to assist you as much as possible should you be victim of a trade scam, we can unfortunately not guarantee that we will be able to return the stolen gil if it has been spent by the time we complete the investigation.

We thank you very much for your GM Call and we wish you a very nice day.

    Regards,

FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Game Master team
So it seems that if the borrower has the gil/item to be paid back but chooses not to, then the GMs can help. If they spent it all and don't have any, or bailed the game altogether then they won't be able to help.

I've heard of trades going sour so just wanted to confirm the GMs would back us up if possible. I'm glad to find out they can when able.

I'd advice not lending to anyone, unless your not too bothered about getting it back or not.

The only understanding with a "Trade Agreement" is that you gave your gil to someone else and don't expect it back. If you get it back, consider yourself lucky. Think about how often people in the real world stiff other people (loans between friends, or individuals not paying back mortgages)... now add anonymity. That's not a good recipe.

Feels alot like this http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...15#post1847115 , regarding which I've seen http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...qcug?context=3 and http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...z7pb?context=3 . I'd suggest you be prepared to lose your gil if you only trust those ppl to the point where you still need an actionable loan agreement.
