The lore's already set up for them, who cares if they are subservient or not?! They've always had a hint of worship because ... well, they're powerful beings that seem almost god like with elemental attributes of the world. Any lesser being is surely to worship them xD Have you even played the other FF's? And who's to say like the other ones that once you fight a primal you won't gain their respect/power/ability to summon them?!...

Aside from that there's some pretty nice suggestions in this thread, especially love the idea of summoning an avatar and becoming them Who cares about being a hybrid/jack of all trades though? If that's what they become then that's what they become^^ It's nice having a few of those around, personally that's mostly what I play in mmo's xD

I too liked the ideas of HP linking n such: some really good ideas everyone has so far!

I know not everyone is agreed on one thing but I think it's a matter of perspective; I too played SMN in FFXI ALOT and loved thinking how it could have been better! Bows our chance to revise the old model and retain the awesome parts too!

SMN could very well be the doorway to all other petjob mechanics in FFXIV which is another reason why this discussion is crucial.

Let's face it: there are more of us petjob enthusiasts our there and we deserve a place in FFXIV just as much as the masses of DD, tanking, healing, and nuking clones that will come in the near future.

My main point is; Petjobs always get the back row seats, let us shine and have our turn too this time !

Lol we should agree on the Evoker and SMN both being in game: that way the ppl who don't want to use full potential summons can RP to their hearts content as a Evoker

I like this, Good job Syph! I think a summoner class in any way shape or form would be epic enough though. I wonder if/when this class will be implemented.

Honestly i think a hybrid mage/petjob is exciting. Enthusiasts of both get a unique experience.

On another note: since you brought bst up: I notice an interesting trend: I made a BST thread awhile back and most ppl said BST should only be a DD with nonpet abilities.

What's up with ppl on these forums and being against pet jobs?

There are a good amount of posters in these forum that want petjobs, so just give us some respect too; we deserve to have fun in FFXIV as well

Same goes with Dragoons, some would prefer them without a wyvern as a companion and just be DD on their own.

Traditionally that's the only pet job.

Unless you count Puppetmaster, which wasn't playable until XI.
