    Spiritbonding Tier-4 DOL Materia

what is the best gear to spiritbond to get tier4 guile/guerdon/grasp materia?

I'm currently spiritbonding gear I buy form NPC Merchat in Mor Dhona, so it's iLv 45-ish..
but I've only got tier-3 materia so far...

Am I "wasting" my time, by spiritbonding these gears hoping to get some IV materia?
(It's not really a waste of time since I can still sell materia I don't need to meld, and still get profit from it, but who knows xD)

its got a low chance like 5% to get IV from the 45ish gear. I heard if you wear the i55 militia gear you may have a slightly higher chance. But, it is mostly just always get tier 3 with a small chance of tier4.

I'll be doing a large round of spiritbonding for crafting and gathering materia a few weeks before 2.4 in the event there is new meldable gear, don't want to face the market rise.

I think I've read that i55 gears has something like 10% on tier 4, but I'm not sure....

I'll just have to try and spiritbond old BiS gears, like the AF Hat, or jewels, but with the low rate tier4 materia, it feels like a waste of money :/

So ilvl 55 doesnt have a much higher chance than ilvl 45 to drop tier 4 materias ?

Then its probably not worth the difference in price

    that's exactly my thought.
I don't remember well market prices, but I can purchase ilv45ish gear at mor Dhona for less that 5k guil.. if I don't convert it in a T4 Materia, I can still sell it for more guils that I spent on the gear...
little more, but it's still a profit)

old BiS pre 2.3 HQ gear, on my server, it's something around 20k guil/piece(or it was, last time I had to buy it xD), and yes, if i convert a T4 materia I don't need, I can still sell it for something like 150k guil, but on the other hand I lose around 15k guil/piece if I get a T3 materia :/

Would you call a 100% increase in chance much better? Because that's what the difference between 5% and 10% is.

You know what else is the difference between i45 and i55 gear? Nearly double the time it takes to fully spiritbond. Difference negated.

Also, there's no evidence that I've seen that shows i45~50 gear gives T4s at any less of a chance that i55 gear.

Do you know what the difference is between SBing NQ and HQ gear is? About 25% less time to SB. Add a throwaway materia, reduce time another... what? 10- 15%? Difference in speed mostly regained.

I am logging wearing my Spirtbonding set. It should show on my Lodestone page. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...acter/1353531/

Edit: As I am 50 in all crafts (but truly maxed in none) HQing iL55 gear is dead simple. As I am L 50 Miner and Botanist its almost free.

If you have your miner and goldsmith maxed, gather stacks of ores and craft your own jewelry to spiritbind. To get tier3-4, I use jewelry that ranges from lvl45 to lvl49. If you have cheap materia or are willing to buy some (elemental tier 1 is around 700g on my server), meld them on your the stuff you want to spiritbind. You can also spend some GC seals to buy a potion that lasts 2 hours. I don't remember the number of accessories I converted, but I got 7 tier IV that way.

thanks for the advice, I don't have lv 50 goldsmith yet (still working on it xD) but since I've maxed my LWT yesterday, I was planning to craft lots of raptorskin rings and spiritbond them
a bit slower since I can only spiritbond 2 at a time, but it's still worth a try xD
