There's a lesson to be learned here

    Word things properly.

From what we were told, we were expecting Personal Housing to be fully released for 2.38. We were given an estimate gil amount for the housing which is substantially lower than what we've received. Something along the lines of "Two to three times the gil made from leveling one class from 1-50" which would roughly come out to 1 to 2 mil at the highest.

What we got, was an unlock for individual players to purchase a Free Company house without requiring it to be bound to a Free Company. It's a step, but it's not what we were expecting.

    Housing
A seventh and eighth ward will be added to each of the adventurer residential districts.
    * A large amount of additional land is also scheduled for implementation in patch 2.4.
What we should have been told, from the very start, is something along the lines of this.

"We plan for players to be able to purchase houses in 2.38, however, the system will not be fully in place as we expect it to be until patch 2.4 where we will be adding many new housing wards for players to be able to purchase from."
That is instead of saying what was interpreted as. "We plan for player housing to be released in 2.38. We understand that Free Company housing wards are filling up, and plan to be expanding those in 2.4"

While this may be an honest translation error, it comes across as something that leaves myself and quite a few other players rather upset. Please choose more precise wording when doing translations, or when announcing content. If we'd have known that patch 2.38 would not have been the full intended release of Player Housing, many of us wouldn't have planned to be prepared for it only to be upset.

I'm sincerely looking forward to this being resolved in 2.4, mind you. The issue of Personal Housing prices and availability can be fixed (presumably in 2.4) with the addition of new wards designed with the sole intent of being for player-owned houses only. Whether they be new designs, or the current ward designs, the pricing can come down drastically in such wards that are not linked to Free Company housing.

While this may come off as a complaint thread, and admittedly part of it is, I can understand how errors in presentation can occur. I did gather quite a bit of gil and materials in anticipation for what I expected was the release of a fully developed system, and most likely have come off at quite a big loss due to that. I am willing to see if the situation improves itself, and will continue to enjoy the game as normal, though with rather high expectations for the patch to come.

    You're right. This is terrible.

And not only is it the same prices as FC housing too, but they said nothing on whether we could share an individual house with someone else. I guess I'll have to find that out when the server goes live.

I'm peeved. Seems like they shouldn't have even bothered if it was that lousy. Some servers don't even have enough plots for all the free companies they have-and now free companies have to compete against individual rich players? Way to go.

They learned this when they first released FC housing. Didn't matter. Same thing still happened. I'll even outline their success formula for you in case you want to go make your own AAA MMO:

    1) Rush out housing because we gotta go fast! Lot's of contents in my themepark MMO!
    2) Who need to spend more money and invest on new housing servers? Scrubs.
    3) Housing speculation simulator 2015 (huehuehue it'll be a shy over 800k+)
    4) ???
    5) Profit!

Going by their estimate for how many wards will be enough to satisfy both FC's and Personal housing seekers, I think assuming anyone making this plan can count to five is generous.

This is really disappointing. Since ARR launched I've been wanting a house all to my own, now I find out I can't afford it, and in the time it would take me to save up for one they'll all be sold out due to competition between FC's and other players.

I guess I'll start working overtime to earn gil for 2.4 but if they don't fix it in a way that will let me get a house I don't think I can wait much longer than that. I only resubbed because I heard housing was coming soon, and then this happened.

The money wouldn't be a problem if there were guaranteed a space when I could save it up, but the way it's looking I won't have time to earn that much. I don't doubt for a second that all the small plots will be gone within the first day or two on Balmung. Hopefully my FC can pick one up so I can at least buy a private room for the time being.

It doesn't make sense for the same house that an FC pays 4m for, an individual can buy for 800k.

If you want a -personal house- expect to pay actual housing prices for it.

That's all there is to it.... they have to keep the housing mechanic consistent.

Could have been a smaller house, in a different district. Lots of ways they could have gone about it.

Or, they could have not quoted us 'around 800k' to begin with. But the price isn't even the point, the point is lots of FCs who were waiting with their fingers crossed now won't even be able to get a home because all the new wards will be bought out on good servers instantly, and those of us players who aren't able to buy a home individually the instant housing comes out will likely never get one until something changes.

There is literally nothing positive about this.

There's a ton positive about it. There's massive groups of people that work together to get an FC house. Please tell me how big you expect a house to be if you take 4m and crop it down to 800k. Do YOU want a personal house that has a inside the size of a closet, and a lot only big enough for a delux garden? If we're going to talk about money and value to things. That's what you should expect if they add a ward for individuals and base it off current values of current sizes.

Think about it logically for a moment. If you lived in the game and it cost 4m to make that small house on that plot, you can't build the exact same thing on another plot for 800k.
