Putting my positive outlook and avid XIV support aside for a moment, I thought it would be beneficial and constructive to compile a list of my daily/weekly routines, that I do in-game, that I simply do not really find fun or enjoyable, and possible suggestions to help tackle them.
[<*>=small priority or minor nuisance to me / <***>=high priority, issues I loathe!] (*- edits/updates)
1.) Material Gathering for Crafts <**->
Crafting seems to favor bulk production, but a lot of times I just need to make one finished item for someone, and spend far too much time hunting down one random mat (like fish glue or a colored strap) to make it worth the time. Please stock the town vendors with more options, even if the prices are ridiculous and used mainly as single purchases for convenience.
2.) Chasing Enemies During Levequests <*-->
I enjoy Leves, but pursuing enemies becomes annoying and predictable after a while. Perhaps randomize it, so sometimes they chase us to the destination (give them temp invincible and 2x attck power once they reach a certain stage) or if we take them down fast enough, they wont have a chance to flee and the next group simply spawns, or even ambushes us on occasion.
*[Levequest related] I don't see myself doing more than 3 leves/month anymore. Even lower SP soloing seems more fun.
3.) Selling Items/Utilizing Retainers <**->
Can be a real hassle. I would like to be able to call my retainer at anytime and be able to check their inventory and sales status. If I am at a bell I would like to be able to automatically dispatch them to a ward of my choosing, and the game would pick a spot to place them. Also, to be able to move items directly from my inventory to my retainers bazaar for easier selling, this would be a good thing.
4.) Hunting a Good LS/Group for Partying <***>
I do not know why people don't utilize the seek party function more, but perhaps a beginning tutorial introducing it to people and making them use it once would be a good first step (right after the cool emote quests!) as for LS issues, I'll just link to this suggestion I had. This one is less a daily routine issue, but nudging your way into a LS now really is not an enjoyable task. This was less an issue when XIV launched, but I have seen too many LS die since then, and I am pretty adamant about avoiding Ul'Dah, so perhaps this is a minority problem.
*Hard to form pts outside of your LS or friends list.
*[suggestion] certain areas to go to for seeking certain parties. Maybe like instanced zones, each tied to a certain party dynamic: world grind zone, dungeon raid zone, levelinking zone, farming zone and so on,. Would be a fun way to go and meet up with people who have similar goals to you. And maybe the game could automatically work out our ranks so we would just have to choose the kind of group were looking for and meet up with plenty of adventurers instantly, and work out the parties from there.
5.) Changing Classes <***>
Improvements ot this are coming, great! But to add, I generally carry 3+ weapons, and all crafting tools at all times. Perhaps Class/Job deserves its own tab in the menu. This is where you would handle saving stats/abilities/traits/saved equipment sets, and maybe where you could switch classes on the fly, instead of looking for your weapon/tool. It just feels weird now, that changing one piece of equipment changes everything about me, I would much prefer to open a class menu and have a fast intuitive way to class change there. With a dedicated menu, it would also lend itself towards allowing us to have multiple equipment/ability sets saved for one class.
* Something simple, just like an icon button representing the class, maybe even in the form of an on screen widget that you can drag from the menu to your UI.
* Changing Classes and having to reset skills everytime. Even with macros it takes awhile and sometimes they dont get set right because it goes over the points. You have to unequip some then run your macro(s).
6.) Unchanging Cities <**->
Well, a daily routine for me is just hanging out in town! I love the design of Limsa Lominsa, but only the lighting ever changes. I would welcome something like day/night NPCs/vendors, events that only happen at certain hours of the day; once in a while a Roagadyn will chase a Lalafell NPC through town shouting "thief! someone stop him!", or if a seagull landed once in a while and just sits there for a moment, and stuff like that,
7.) Using the Journal/Map <*-->
Many times quests send me halfway across the world, so I open the map and it takes me a good while to find landmarks I recognize to have a clue where to go. I think the journal map should include camp names, caves, landmarks etc. Also, next to the destination icon, an arrow icon pointing in the general direction of our characters location in relation to our destination would be very handy.
8.) Chatting While Crafting <**->
Just doing my set of local leves has me grounded for a good 90+ minutes, I would like if I could chat with my friends/LS during this time as well. As it is now, I feel like a craft bot sometimes because it is hard to get a word out while hammering away. My idea for this is pretty complex and long to write out, but basically I was thinking something like auto-attack for crafting. Whatever craft method you have selected will continue to fire off each crafting round until you give it a new input. So if I have standard selected, I can be chatting while standard continues to work on my craft. And if my craft starts to blow up I can take a minute to use wait command or use my abilities.
*removal of the time bar (so simple I didn't even think of it, but it would definitely work)
9.) The Daily Vendor Grind <**->
After a long night of savage and unrestrained adventuring, I find my backpack loaded with more items than I even care to vendor! I have enough means to earn a living, I do not need to vendor junk items for 20 gil anymore. I would love it if I could add certain items to a junk list. If an enemy drops an item and it is on my junk list, it will automatically fall to my loot list instead of my inventory, there I could choose whether to keep it or it will be discarded automatically after a set time.
10.) Exploring New&Dangerous Places <**->
You can only really explore places now if you have the strength to overwhelm anything that comes your way. In place of copy/pasting snk and invis to XIV, i suggest consideration for special reagents we could carry on the field (CUL and ALC made perhaps) These consumables will turn us into beast-men or animals temporarily so we can sneak around encampments. Attacking or taking any action with this on should also kill the illusion and change you back.
*Exploring Related: I wish some of these remote areas had daily quests and things to do for reputation and cool faction armor + cosmetic items. Helps make repetition worth it.
Logging In
Too many steps, can we simplify this process; 1. I start FFXIV - Fine 2. I login putting my user/pass - Fine 3. I hit the play button - WHY? 4. I hit the start button or w/e - WHY? 5. I have to agree to that stupid message every time - WHY? 6. I select my character - Fine
*I would also welcome a -save password- option
[Edit] Additions: (*)
Crafting!- So tedious and boring I just start synth, lay my head back and press A until I doze off.
-crafting leves feel too long, and turning them all in can be a huge hassle sometimes
-entire crafting process feels slow, and the SP rewarded does not properly reflect the time invested
Hunting Related- targeting and fighting flying enemies as a melee feels more annoying than it does fun and engaging. Shock Spikes feels overpowered on enemies now with the addition of auto-attack
MW Hassle- AH would solve so many of these problems
Please feel free to add any daily routines in XIV that personally drive you bonkers, or if you have alternate suggestions on issues I already mentioned, please list them! and I will edit them in OP to help keep it complete and relevant to more people. Or if you disagree with an issue I have mentioned or with a suggestion to improve it, please mention that as well, as the point of this post is not to make XIV into my own personal perfect world. Thanks for your time Eorzea!
