Atma: True or False?

I completed my Thyrus Atma at a stage of the game when the majority of the players were also grinding theirs. Completing F.A.T.E's at that time was quick and effortless. Every single time I completed one, I always had Gold Participation and the F.A.T.E's were always successful.

Now, I'd like to work on another Atma weapon and I have heard some theories on what is actually required to claim a F.A.T.E. in order to have the chance at an Atma dropping. I'm hoping that with the communities help I could separate some myths from some facts.

True or False:

1) Atma's can drop from a F.A.T.E. regardless of the level of participation as long as the F.A.T.E. completes with a Success.
EXAMPLE:




2) You can gain an Atma from a F.A.T.E. regardless of the level of participation, even if the F.A.T.E. is a Failure.
EXAMPLE:




3) In order to obtain an Atma, you must score Gold Participation on a F.A.T.E. that is also a Success.

You just have to participate enough to get Bronze credit and be in the zone when the FATE completes, either success or failure it doesn't matter. The rest is just luck.

So uh, 1 and 2 are true, 3 is false.

I've actually obtained "ATMA OF THE CRAB" by getting a silver metal. (sorry I don't have screen shots due to the fact it was a month ago)

Unverified:
The rng generator appears to be regional and time based.
Using random zone jumping every 5-10 fates netted an atma every 20-30 fates. (I have seen 2 100 fate gaps but those were rare)

Best advice, pick a number of fates you are comfortable doing in a day and stop after you hit that point. Good luck on "banging your head into the desk part 2: the second lump"

Thank you all for the quick replies. This matches the feedback I received from some linkshell mates. I'm hoping that someone took a screen shot of themselves or know of someone else that has posted a screen shot of such conditions when receiving an Atma. It's not that I don't want to believe the feedback (because I do) but until it actually happens to you, or you see proof, you always have that doubt in the back of your mind. If you know what I mean.

This is great info. Thank you for sharing. I'd like to follow up with a side question to you specifically. Do you think there is a drop percentage difference based on your participation level of F.A.T.E. completion? Or you think it's a flat % regardless of the participation.

I don't have SS for it because it was months back, but I once participated in the West Thanalan FATE "Doomed", managed to only hit the boss once before it died (with an Aero spell no less) and received an Atma crystal for it. I've never gotten one from a FATE that failed, but obviously that doesn't prove you can't. As for a correlation between participation and chance rate, I obviously can't be sure but I doubt it, I've read that Yoshida confirmed that getting a crystal is pure RNG.

I got atma of the archer I think it was called, the north shroud one, just by using energy drain on that giant collosus.was surprised I'd even get credit let alone an atma as I turned up just before it died

This was verified. Yoshi-P said himself it's purely RNG. There are no Japanese time theories or any of that nonsense. RNG is, always has been, and always will be RNG.

I agree with you 100%. It's totally RNG based and I have personally always thought that it was. But what about what I said earlier. Does the % of RNG change based on the participation level? Gold, Silver, Bronze? Or do you personally think that it's a flat % of RNG regardless of the participation?

I wouldn't even want to spend the time investigating. Should anyone make claims I would assume they are falling foul to the biased opinions described in one of the Dev. posts some time ago.
