I have been playing FFXI because it was a free login week. I would gladly play FFXI more if it went Free to play with FFXIV sub. Or discounted if you play both.

But I found out that after 11 years of FFXI it's basiclly dead to me because it takes so long to do anything. But if it was free I wouldn't mind so much.
I actually tried it again also, problem is that it's empty and it didn't seem like people went back.

I found it extremely hard to understand what they added since I left in 2013 dec. I believe they should make a guide book like they did back then, it would possibly get people to play it again.
I always said if they charged 4 dollars and 99 cents I would play both games but 15 for 2 is too much plus ffxi is old and on its last leg but I like ffxi so much its just I feel lost.

I know what to do in the game but it would take time for me to figure it out but free log in wouldn't be enough time to do anything at all.

I always had this idea for FFXI like the Wings of the Goddess expansion how they made you go into the past.

They would make a expansion that would start people over at level 1 max level 50 a fresh start once they go to this new land it was like time rewinded when the Lightbringer was pulled from its sheath.
Anyone who goes to the new land cannot use their old stuff even jobs at level 99 cannot exist because it never happened and in this land Altana is the Dawn Goddess is just now creating Vana'diel.

The jobs are different with different move sets and party based like the old days, no exp boosts nothing, the new jobs are old relics of the past that exist only back then.

Everything in the future is not allowed in the past because it wasn't created yet only reason people can come there is that time was distorted and people have to go on a new adventure to fix what is broken.
Meaning if you go back to Vana'diel of the future you can have your 99 jobs and do stuff from that time, though you cannot use existing things in the past and fresh new story.

Everyone starts new and tries to learn the new area's and new quest lands alliances that existed back when Vana'diel was created and the leaders were legendary people you only heard in tales.

Then when everyone gets used to the new stuff in the past at the same time change the future and erase events that never happened which you can re-fight battles but they change because you messed with the past, in other words if you beating missions in the past will change the future changing abyss, cop, treasures, seekers and wings of the goddess.

all the way up to the point where you fight the boss who unsheathed the lightbringer.

By the same logic should we start a petition for a classic WoW server for those that like 14 the way it is?

They added so much in the game, new content every month basically. Here are the list of things you can do.

    Solo play:
    - Farming dynamis, salvage, limbus, and colonization + lair reive, doing delivery mission for coalition.
    - Using trust npc and do sparks quests (think of them as levee, some are repeatable, and you can tackle several at a time - up to 15)
    - Crafting: they updated this with crafting kit so you no longer have to hunt materials, up to level 50 I think.
    - Pushing yourself to the limit by trying to solo some Skirmish (which needs Key Item to be made). Yes Skirmish 1 and 2 can be soloed. And you can summon trust NPC. I soloed Yorcia Skirmish as Geomancer with Trust NPC, it's fun to see how far you can take certain jobs.
    - Walk of Echoes farm: they revised this - so now you can farm the new improved WoE which can drop i-level gears.

    Group play:
    - You can create capacity points party, this is by definition your "old school merit points" party. You won't find that many people who are interested, but filling a group of 6 is easy, plus you can summon Trust NPC if one of your member left.
    - Abyssea party, for when you need to level another job.
    - Skirmish, they added brand new one last month, so there are four type of skirmish to do.
    - New BCNM: remix of past favorite bcnms, you will need merit points to enter these.
    - SKCNM: these drops chapters you need to "updated" your artifact and relic gears.
    - Delve: these are now can done with only 6 person.

On top of all that, you can still do the "classic FFXI" if you want to - but with a much improved gameplay - aka easier travel, faster to get xp, and Trust NPC helps a great deal for when people left your group in a sudden. None of the classic element has changed much. The problem, as you have said, not many people are interested. And they did not bother to advertise the game.

............ This is literally NOT a solution at all. Plenty of these already exist for free (private servers) EQ has them too.

What MMO fans have been asking for over the past 10 years is a new MMO. There literally hasn't been a single real MMO released since FFXI.

Everything WoW+ is "Solo 90% of the time your online.. then do this weekly reset. Oh and btw the solo part takes about 20 hours /played because after that you're lvl capped and there is no point in pre raid content anymore. But hey we will add in these 1000000 other SOLO activities to keep you busy in our MULTIPLAYER game (see housing, gardening, pokemon, chocobo raising, etc)"

A Veteran MMO gamer knows that the experience of the game is stretched out over years, and if crafted properly, it leaves players with some of the best gaming experiences to be found anywhere.

There are private servers out there if you look for them, that have XI in it's pre-abyssea state. That sounds like exactly what you want. So go look it up and find it.
