FFXIV does not need to be like FFXI

Well FFXI still exists, and most coughprivatecough servers aren't past zilart or so from what I've seen.
And DQX is the closest you'll get to FFXI in modern mmos. Maybe say something to square about bringing that over

TBH I've been wondering if they'd ever release that here. I played DQ8 and loved it but for an MMO version of it I'd gladly try out even possibly pay an extra sub every month or keep it up when I want a break from this. Maybe they're testing the waters with ARR or maybe waiting for the first expansion to drop and see if it is feasible. I can't imagine them not taking it globally. It could be they're getting it translated now and just want to surprise the rest of the market. Who knows.

That is what you would do, cept it goes deeper then just content. Some people just want the feeling back of when their favorite MMO was new and want to relive memories of that new and fresh feeling. While I didn't play XI, i played EQ. Yeah by today's standards its old, slow and clunky, but it does have memories. That's enough of a reason for the people that support classic servers.

Its what funnels things like Project 1999 and the PSU private servers which i maybe wrong now but the last time I stayed up to date with them are still going strong. It shows people support these things. When SOE was thinking about sunsetting the EQMAC server. A server that hasn't seen an expansion or a game update in over 10 years due to the games mac port being abandoned but the server remained. The servers entire population, and yes it had a pretty sizable population all rallied together and in the end SOE kept the server going.

People like reforging new memories in favorite games with others who want the same.

Sorry, but "the feeling" is nothing if you have literally nothing to do when connecting.
No one will continue to pay a monthly fee just to gaze into the distance thinking "that's the MMO I like". No new content = Death

DQX's on its 2nd expansion, with the third coming out probably around christmas or january. It's also got more sales/subs in japan than XIV does. I don't know why they won't bring it over, they think western fans don't like DQ when nintendo's proven them wrong when they localized IX and others and marketed them a little bit and broke 7 digit sales. While SE did limited print runs (which sold out) and then complained about low sale numbers.

I don't think you understand what a hamster wheel grind is. THIS game has a hamster wheel, that is, that every step forward is inevitably going to go backward.The progression here is an illusion, THAT is a hamster wheel, in ffxi it took a while but your rewards were good for the duration of the lvl 75 era of the game. You are doing the exact same thing here except you are just transitioning through more phases.

LOL I have no illusions whatsoever, I know what FF14 is. Nothing meant to last in this game. It is a short term fix for three months or less. It's log and play, have your fun, cap your weekly, do your daily. Enjoy the scenery. Chat with your FC - assuming you have active ones. So many options of things to do. Yes none of these are suppose to last you a long long time. It is not suppose to be, and it's rather dumb to make something last for years and years. Get with the program, new shiny things every three months so you can repeat the "short term" grind for new shiny. You don't even have to stay subscribe to this game. It's what makes it great. You can stop playing and come back and still be able to catch up in a few weeks. No dedication required.

Whats the point of a thread like this being on these forums anyway? Were you hoping that old ffxi players would come running at your idea to help It? Because I don't see it happening. Also a petition is a waste of time because even if you perform a miracle to get all 1,000 signatures (I doubt you'll even make it to 220) the devs can straight up ignore it. Its just a waste of time and effort.

Agreed - time wasted hoping for "nostalgia" fix. That time better of spent making a private server and "secretly" inviting all who wants to play the game in the "classic" way. It may have 50 people, but hey all of them get their nostalgia fix. The new FFXI actually does give OP so many possibilities - all he has to do is finding 5 other players and he can organize "nostalgia party". A few snowflakes often shouted for these party, so far very few bites the offer. Though with Trust NPC, you really only need 2 other people to make full party. I am not sure why he wants "Classic" when the actual "classic" is already built in the FFXI, and it is FAR SUPERIOR classic FFXI in every ways...

The current FFXI is beyond fantastic when it comes to helping every kind of players and giving them so many options on how they want to play the game. Yes, you have to do extra effort to find like minded soul who wants to play the game in the "classic" way. The amount of options in current FFXI is mind boggling, there is no right or wrong way on how you want to tackle the content. All you need is the attitude of "I don't give a crap what the majority wants" and go make your own party and try to solve problems with jobs combination that are not considered "VIP".

Seekers of Adoulin introduced so many great things to the game, some new, and some "remixed". You have NO restriction on what jobs you want to bring. It is a great challenge if you want to try non-orthodox job combination, and a pure joy when you actually beat the content without needing jobs XYZ (or GTFO). I think that's one of the many great things with FFXI, if you really know the jobs, and everyone in your party understand their roles, the many ways you can tackle the problems are part of the fun challenge.

I have been playing FFXI because it was a free login week. I would gladly play FFXI more if it went Free to play with FFXIV sub. Or discounted if you play both.

But I found out that after 11 years of FFXI it's basiclly dead to me because it takes so long to do anything. But if it was free I wouldn't mind so much.

Sadly you are so right, I played FFXI till July of this year. It was not so bad once you get used to the slowness of it. There are some dailies to do that are more "insta-play" - farming dynamis, limbus, salvage, are just a few. The rest of the content do require you "shout" for Pick Up Groups or gather your LS members or friend list. They updated Walk of Echoes which is free for all open world content. But yeah, once you are used to the duty finder and dailies from FF14, it's really hard to go back and have to deal with the "slow" pace of FFXI.
