They warned us on the official VIP Ticket Thread.
VIP Tickets so I can go complain to Yoshi-P about personal housing in person? DO WANT!
If you read my post I said "in individual tabs." I got that we would have to select them individually, but not in the way that it ended up being.
Edit: You know, not that this is even the point. It's still really foolish and unintuitive to set it up like this when obviously you would only have purchased multiple tickets if you were going in a group together.

No, other people in this thread specifically talking about dumb things they did which hindered their ability to purchase upgrades means other people are bad planners.
Stop trying to put your disappointed words in my mouth.
Not necessarily, quite a few people purchased several tickets that they sold on online auction to others. If you upgraded every ticket that you purchased in a single transaction. They would have upgraded those tickets they sold to others at no extra cost to their buyers but at $80 a ticket cost for themselves.
I don't know why people are trying to argue with me about the system of upgrading the tickets. It's just simply the fact that it is completely unintuitive to upgrade a single ticket when you are part of a group. (Meaning multiple tickets purchased on one account.) I'm voicing my complaint towards SE themselves and not individuals. I'm also not trying to dampen anyone's spirits that did manage to get their upgrades. Good for you and all. I just want to be able to relinquish the VIP upgrade, or upgrade the others in my group. Yes, I was lucky enough to get tickets. Yes, I was lucky enough to upgrade 1 of those tickets. All I want is for those that were lucky enough to upgrade 1 of their group of tickets, to either be able to upgrade the others or relinquish the VIP upgrade to give it to someone else who could use it. Basically, either I'll give you $160 SE, or I'd like my $80 back, please!
Yes, but I do not think they were supposed to do that, so I don't look at it as something moreorless 'legal.' Anyway, what I expected is, just like when you purchased the tickets, you could choose how many out of the group you wanted to upgrade/buy. You know how when you got in, they would hold 4 tickets back when we purchased the tickets? I thought it would be similar, and then the others would go back out for people to buy. But this upgrading system was confusing since it was much different than that time. I guess it was easier for people to purchase upgrades because they weren't being held, but harder to obtain if you needed multiples? Not necessarily, quite a few people purchased several tickets that they sold on online auction to others. They would have upgraded those tickets they sold to others at no extra cost to their buyers but at $80 a ticket cost for themselves.
I didn't even bother trying to get one today because I knew I'd get beyond frustrated with the restriction. I kind of wish there was some sort of promotional contest for this, rather than just being lucky and 'getting in' first. Oh well, I'll still enjoy myself. Sorry to those who are upset about this. I understand your frustration. I almost didn't get regular tickets months ago because of the traffic.
I just hope SE uses a better vendor next time. But for now, they're stuck with this one, and I know they're in a tight place because of it. I can't really be angry about the restrictions of the system, but I can be sad that there was really no rhyme or rhythm to who obtained the VIP tickets. I think we'll all be happy with the event itself, though, and prior to the tickets going on sale, many people were speculating if it was 'worth it' or not. I can only hope we'll have an opportunity to have stuff signed WITHOUT being VIP... >_>;; Hey Yoshi, can finalists in the cosplay contest get stuff signed? (Really, I just want more motivation to finish my costume.)
