And like i said, hasn't changed for a long time. ARR has been out for a year now and keeps this method with plenty of complaints for it from the beginning. I don't like it either but they seem pretty damn adamant about keeping it.
Say that after the fact you find yourself with a ton of animal hides and sinew and after killing monsters constantly you have nothing to use them on, not even crafting because those don't generate anything worth selling. I think at least selling an item NPC-wise could generate like 3 gil per item, instead of getting a mere 99 gil, you could make like 297 gil per stack. I think that's fair for the low level things. You can edit your post to go over the 1000 char limit.
As for items going for 1 gil. They are really worth 1 gil. And if they sit there on the MB and people are not buying them, you think they are really worth more than 1 gil? Level 20 unlocks retainers. It doesn't take long to get there.
umm 4 isn't 2
got your numbers wrong buddy!

1) Most gear is easily obtained by completing quests.
2) Most low level players, such as yourself have not had enough experience with the game to create a valid post.
This is a long term game my friend, don't expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter.
Get out there and grind, shoot even my 5 year old daughter has a level 20, mostly from ladybugs and squirrels and she has never compalined once.
Most people I know get their gear, in low levels, by the main/side/class quests. The rewards from such quests were also decent enough that you can buy gear from the NPC vendors too.
I only have a lev 30 conj and 26 sum but managed to rack up over a half a mil just off botany and weaver making hq mats (low level mats and shards), /shrug
I that the market board does have stupid crazy prices (people try to take advantage of others) but we were all new players at some point.
I for one for most of my classes just went with the gear you get from quests or dungeon drops.
Could always ask a crafter to make you gear if you know any
In Eorzea if you want to take on powerful enemies and do difficult content you focus on your battle class. None of the top gear is bought from the markets, however if you want to make money I suggest you pick up your pickaxe and go bust up some rocks. I made a new character a few months ago and within a month had a level 50 battle class and 2M in the bank. You just have to do a bit of market research to see what is selling and fill that demand. Lower level stuff in the mid 20 range are always good sellers because high end crafters/gatherers don't want to bother with them anymore. At any rate, best of luck to you.
Just your friendly neighborhood elezen
