I do not, at all, feel the work to get Novus and the work to get HA are in any way comparable. Not even close. No one is "forced" to do anything in this game, however I agree with the previous poster that had I not done my Novus originally, I'd have felt "forced" into doing it because I never anticipated garbage drop rates on t9 weapons for my group. Diamonds isn't THAT bad, but my mindset for making it to t9 was that I wanted the best gear in the game, so settling for third best weapon is silly when I know I can get something like Novus (eventually). I equate the work needed to obtain Novus and learning t9 for HA as on the same level, and I feel like they should be rewarded similarly.
Would anyone even think of doing Novus if you knew that you only had a chance at getting the weapon rather than a guarantee? Knowing that the majority of my group is going to go into 2.4 without a HA weapon sucks. Of course, we don't really know if they'll be "required" for the new coil, but it's mostly just a morale issue. I like what previous posters have said with 10x wins giving you a HA weapon of your choice. You put the time in, as it is with Novus, and your group should be rewarded as such.
In regards to you healing it with an i95, that's only because healer gear is largely insignificant when it comes to keeping the team up. If you were a dps or a tank, the group should be making a bigger issue about you using an i95 weapon.
Also, you're right, being a healer it is largely insignificant. If it was an issue I would of gotten Diamonds. Not felt forced into a relic.
Time? Time is not effort. Time is not work. I mean time is most certainly valuable, but lots of time and little effort is nothing compared to actual effort.
You spend more time, but you do literally no learning, expending no effort during that time.
It would be nice to go to a token system or some way to make RNG less prevalent. My FC has only started doing Second Coil not too long ago and we have gotten 2 healer earrings (only one person needed) and 2 brd belts (no one wanted it) so that's essentially 3 "lost" pieces of gear and one entire week without any maningful reward for a group that still needs gear. Why should we be locked out if we don't want any of the crap that drops and my group doesn't improve in gear?
I'd also be more open to getting pug replacements in this case as right now there's always that feeling of "I don't want a pug to get this item because we probably won't see them or the drop ever again."
Can you imagine how ridiculous this is going to get with more jobs if they don't rethink how job-specific loot is acquired? Right now it is borderline tolerable, but down the road... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll adjust it.
Yeah I was thinking this too. In 2.4 Nael and the new coil will also give us THF/NIN gears. And when the expansion hits, if they let's say introduce 2-4 new jobs... OMG
they should make a repeatable. Every 10 clears = weapon of your choice. This way...at least you know you would eventually get what you want sometime during the current tier.
I still don't know why we just can't have "unidentified allagan (item)" drop and then let people pick what they want. Unidentified Boots could be taken to a NPC and traded for boots of your choice, etc. Or just have a catch-all item for armor and a different one for weapons that let you pick any item you want and only drop one per turn instead of 2+. I'd be fine with having less drops as a whole as long as it was guaranteed that each drop would benefit the group.
But Coil is 8 man and CT and Frontline don't drop weapons ^^
We got so far...
x1 SMN book (We don't have SMN except for T7)
x2 SCH book (One of the healers quit, the second one is in a secondary job)
x2 WHM canes (We're still using this one. The second one was ninja'd by a pug)
x1 MNK fists (He quit)
x1 PLD blade (This one is mine)
We have yet to see what's this week's drop since we clear the whole Coil on sundays. We're sad because we didn't get ANY DPS weapon so far that is still active...
