Isn't this going to defeat the point of putting your weapon away to rest MP? I was just getting used to this too

^This. Mages will never have their weapons out and will once again have a never ending supply of mana. Not a fan

They may manage MP another way. Like wait 5-10 seconds before MP starts to recover.
Anyway, this will help in not awakening a mob when you just cast sleep, because auto attack activates.

I figured this would just take out the extra step of putting your weapon away if you're passive when you start the cast. If you aren't auto attacking or actively casting a lot you should be going to passive anyway to get MP back.

Wouldnt this also solve the problem of cures using too much mp? If mages are constantly getting more mp from being in passive mode, they shouldn't have such an mp shortage

I don't see a problem with shortages of MP, have done the new dungeons many times, and only on the first run (being as this was also the first time after the patch I had played my 50THM) did I have issues with mana. I now have rather excellent MP management. I agree the costs could be reduced by 10-15 mana per cast, MAYBE, but honestly, I see very little wrong with it now.

I also recall massive mana issues with having to rotate in and out healers in FFXI, the only reason we didn't ever notice is because content designed to be taken down by no more than 18 players had at least 26-40 players on it in rotation. With the party restrictions in this game, this is no longer an option to trivialise content.

Imagine doing Kirin (pre K Club burns) without party bard rotations.

You can see that there's nothing wrong with getting through a tough fight with the current MP costs.. in other words, you're thinking only of yourself. Open your eyes and take a look around at what your fellow game players are saying.. when's the last time you heard of somebody asking for DD for Darkhold? How would you feel if you were left out of every Darkhold run just because you leveled a class you thought was fun for you? Why don't you consider others before posting on a forum where game design choices are influenced.
