im sorry but a group of characters, all with funky names, all the same class, all with the same sub classes, all with 1 rank in weaver or whatever, all with the same gear, all standing in the same area are BOTS.
yes it may be a real person on the other end but they are still using programs to run all of those characters. normally they are using them to SB gear, break down, and sell on the MB for huge amounts of gil.
so the next time you work on that relic quest.. just pay attention to some of those retainers names.

also your entire argument is based on the notion that SE will insta ban anyone. of course they wont. but these are simple observations that can flag certain characters and once spotted,
the appropriate actions can be taken to monitor and ban if needed.

Its not like im gonna buy gil cause you make me a friend
    It's to get your attention.

I know several people who are too lazy to make room in their blacklist, and they just ignore the tells and spam in cities.
With the friend invite, basically they are making those people notice them.

To the people saying this isn't coming from China and there is hardly any spam in this game. Really? Must be nice to not be getting spammed by this constantly. I started playing maybe a month ago and I have 39 on my blacklist so far. That's right, 39. And I am a very casual player who plays little. And the reason most people blame "Chinese gold farmers" is because it's well known that most of this comes from China. Not trying to be disrespectful by any means but it's a fact and there was even a documentary done on it a while back. This is basically common knowledge in mmo's.

I HATE how it comes through in tells and then the immediate friend request. It feels so much more invasive to me by getting spammed like this. I have on occasion turned off the ability for anyone to send tells but how ridiculous that I need to do that and not be able to receive tells from friends, fc members, etc.

Sorry, but I highly doubt everything you said. None of it makes sense for a number of reasons. First of all there is RMT in EVERY game. Try logging onto a free to play game that originated in another country and see how much RMT spam you are going to see. It scrolls so fast you can't even read the chat. A lot of these games originated in China and then are released later in the US in the English version. And have you not actually paid attention to these spam messages? There is very little script and many times the script that is there is in broken English. Do yourself a favor, look up the documentary on the Chinese gold farmers.

Edit for clarification: Seems I have misunderstood some comments on here. I have been primarily referring to the gold farmers themselves which the majority does originate from China as I provided some links in another post. As far as the RMT companies themselves, I personally have been unable to find any substantial information saying where the majority of these companies are from. They could be mainly from the US and EU but I can't find anything stating they are or are not. Either way, they suck The gold farmers and RMT companies alike. Aside from this spam I am LOVING the game so far though.

It's one of the biggest generalizations when it's been shown and proven that RMT isn't 100% chinese but infact tends to be based outside of china, which is why you can't "shut them down" because the laws of the particular country disallows that. It may be frowned upon but it's a legal operation, heck you used to be able to drive up to one of the RMT businesses based in Florida, which as we know, was the company who bought the parent company that owned ZAM.

I'm not saying 100% of this comes from China. I am saying the majority does though. And as far as I know here in the US it IS illegal. At least to the best of my knowledge it is. Here is a quote from Wikipedia regarding this.

This same report estimated that 80% of all gold farmers were from China[11] a fact which has led to prejudice towards Chinese players.[15] 2008 figures from China valued the Chinese trade in virtual currency at over several billion yuan, or nearly USD300 million. Here is the link from the full Wikipedia article.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_farming

    And another http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_farming_in_China

Also, Blizzard won a lawsuit against one of these companies and as we know they are based in the US. Most be something illegal about it here.

Edit: I saw your previous post Tupsi and saw you were referring to the RMT companies themselves and not the gold farmers which is what I was referring to. It's the gold farmers that are primarily from China. A misunderstanding on my part. I haven't been able to find any substantial info on where the majority of these companies originate personally. And as far as it actually being illegal in the US, not sure if it's an actual law but I know the IRS sure isn't looking too kindly on it so I wouldn't doubt if something will be done about it here in the near future. But I am thinking it is illegal here for some reason. Something I read a while back. But anyways, wanted to clarify my misunderstanding! Regardless, both are as big a nuisance as the other in my opinion. Farmer and sellers alike. Despise both personally no matter where they originate from. And.....Square Enix posted this today which is great news. Hope it helps this problem.

I haven't received tells for quite some time now, until last week. I've gotten several each day since then.

I am one of those people who does not really care about the /t itself. It's a pitty we can't right click > report X reason which brings me to the next point.

How does SE work on this? "We banned X amount of accounts" in a random dev post does not cut it for me. It's also something we just have to believe. We can't track it.

My biggest frustration is how it is possible that peope buying gil never get caught. They are the real problem! How hard is it to track them down? I would love transparency on this matter.
