I've been using the same credit card to Pay SE for years, today I received a error 406 for the first time and I have tried multiple submissions. Exp. date, Balance etc all are fine.

ok so the first payment I sent though is pending. Meaning my bank is not blocking it and they are just waiting for the transaction to end.
So the first time I got the 406 it was really accepted, then my second time I got a 406 it was rejected because there is already an identical payment pending.
After contacting SE Chat support - I now have to wait approx 24 hours for a email from the finance.
Edit again: No word from SE... and it will be the weekend for support now so I assume I will be unable to connect for a few days T_T
Edit again: I've bought a time card. Fine, that's a band aid.
However I am getting pretty irritated that 2 of my retainers (Which hold my Gil!) are now locked and there is no other options to pay for them except for card methods.

call the place that has your credit card and find out if you have been paying for years.
then call SE and see whats happening on their end.

I don't recommend doing this. If you think NoScript is a problem, try IE instead. If you're using Chrome and a different script blocker, just open an Incognito window and do that. Don't whitelist things like this because you don't have any good way to verify if your change is successful (mostly because of the lockout period).
Seems like UltimatePay is no longer an option available when I click "Add Crysta".
I have had this problem as well and its always with my visa credit card. i can use that card anywhere else and there is never any issues, only SE is the one that gives me errors when I try to use the card. I have sent in multiple tickets on the issue but they are always ignored. I have talked to my bank on multiple occasions as to why I get an error when trying to use my card for here but they never see any issues on their end. Most likely SE doesnt even know why the error pops up though it would be nice to hear a reply from them on the issue.

I ran into this as well. I looked up the problem and found the solution to be purchasing Crysta with UltimatePay.

This is incredibly frustrating for me as well.
The same credit card I have used since launch for all purchases in the mogstation has suddenly stopped working. The first thing I did was call my bank to make sure they weren't blocking anything but everything looked good.
Support was useless. E-mail tickets are ignored. You'll need to do chat support or call. The only thing they do is copy + paste from a script. When you let them know you've already done those steps they hit you with the lockout and how they can't do anything because it's an automated system. I had to do the ultimate pay workaround--NOT A SOLUTION--to buy crysta, but you can't purchase enough crysta to have a 6-month subscription and two extra retainers. The retainer I store all of my rare/unique items that can't be stored in the inn as well as the items I have been leisurely gathering (UAT, Sands, Thavnairian Mist, Quenching Oil) for ninja are completely inaccessible.
The most frustrating thing is that you can register your card. That step is successful. If you check your online statements you will likely see the $1 authorization charge as a pending transaction. The problem comes when you actually try to apply the card for a payment. Somewhere within the communications between GlobalCollect and SE things are getting borked.
- Detailed error messages need to be displayed to customers so that we know what we can do to try and fix the problem.
- Support needs to have the tools to unlock accounts, or see the reason or current status of payments for an account.
- Take a couple hours to debug your system to fix the problem that has been happening for a year now
- Change the lockout conditions -- x number of failed attempts in a row/within a certain time period instead of just 1 and you're SOL.
- Increase the amount of Crysta one can have so that you have enough to have all subscription options.
yes yes yes! you did a great job on putting this into a detail explanation as to what is happening with this error. Hopefully if this thread keeps getting bumped then some actual attention will be brought to this and maybe (if we are damn luck it will be fixed). I know my card worked fine in 2008 when I had played ff online, but the same exact card now does not work, and its always on that very last step with the whole globalcollect deal.

Well this sucks. Always used ultimate pay as my card was never accepted through the card payment option. Now it's gone my card still isn't accepted so I have no way to buy crysta. Error code is 401 when trying to make a card payment if that helps with anything.
12 days left then I'm screwed...
SE needs to sort this out, taking payments is pretty basic stuff nowadays, I don't know why SE needs to make it such a chore. I'm trying to give you my money SE! would be great if you could facilitate that process a little better.
