Does a BRD have to carry around arrows? If they implement a Chemist class, the potions it uses would just be abilities. They would not need to buy/craft potions that they would use.
That would introduce other kinds of problems. What of the other potions? What of buffs and debuffs? Chemist would be extremely neutered compared to what it usually is, kind of like Blue Mage and Geomancer would be.

ARR is a simplified RPG where one of the things they've done is remove all consumables from playing the class (food and potions don't count). If you need something for an ability (like arrows on the BRD) you just get an infinite supply, can use the ability when you want and you don't have to sacrifice inventory space to use it. I believe they used to have class consumables in FFXIV before ARR, stuff like arrows, tomahawks, etc. Considering I'm under the impression they removed them in ARR because they don't serve any purpose other than to be a hassle to playing the class, I seriously doubt they'll reintroduce that mechanic for any of the future ARR classes.
And it wouldn't introduce any problems whatsoever. For every potion or ingredient that you'd want the chemist to use, mix or otherwise, you would just have an ability and you use it like any other ability. You can have a chemist with a "mega-potion" ability that will pull a potion out of empty space and throw it at your target. This would not have anything to do with any mega potions that would be sitting around in your inventory.
