The thing with wanting to do “fun things” is that the definition of “fun” varies from person to person. We as players, but also the developers, don’t expect you to consider every aspect of the game to be fun. It’s just a matter of taste.
The problem with making a MMO, is that you want to attract a large group of people to your game. In order to do so, you need to create content to please as many of the player base as you possibly can. I believe that’s what SE is doing right now. Adding new things for the players to play with, while trying to keep as many players happy as they can with their current resources.
If you make a list of all the features/content the game had at the 2.0 launch, compared to the features/content we have right now, you can see that SE has focused mostly on implementing new features and QoL improvements rather than “content”.
The reason i say “content” between quotes, is because we did get a fair amount of content (like Main Story Quests, Side Quests, Crystal Tower “Tiers”, Coil Turns and Dungeons), but to be completely honest its “only” a “fair amount of content”. If you, as a player, aren’t interested in the Crafting/Gathering/Relic farming side and want to focus on Raiding, then there isn’t much for you to do between patches.
Even if you are into Crafting/Gathering/Relic farming, the content which has been implemented in the recent patches are very very time consuming. To the point that a lot of people who were interested in it are just saying “F* this...” and leave it at that.
As we speak, SE is about to release patch 2.38 (next tuesday) and 2.4 not too long after that. Patch 2.4 will add another set of Binding Coil of Bahamut Turns, Main Story Quests, Side Quests, another Primal and more.
Next to that, SE is also working on content for patch 2.5 and the game’s first Expansion pack, so we will get more content. I’m not worried about that.
We need to “find something to do” till then. Which brings me to the following…
Jon, you said that your daily routine is doing the Dailies and an Expert Roulette and then you log out for the day. But, what about the people within your Company / Friends List? Do they do the same? Or do they have other things with which you could help out?
The reason i say this is that in my personal situation, i find myself helping out my friends with their Dungeons, Treasure Maps, etc a lot. And i really mean… A lot. I’m perfectly fine with that and it really fills up my daily schedule to a point where i have to say “No” because i barely have time left to finish the Daily Hunt Mark bills for that day.
You also said that you might be interested in doing some PvP. I’d say, give it a go. You might like it. (^_^ )
Also (and this question is for everyone in this thread), let me ask you this:
If a developer would ask you, straight in the face, “What would you like to do in this game? What kind of content do you want us to create?”. What would you say?
Please describe your answer with more words than just “More raids”. Be more specific. Throw in idea’s, themes, scenarios, things you liked from other game that could be converted to something Final Fantasy-esque.
What i want to say, before i actually press the submit button, is that developing a MMO game is not something to be taking lightly. There is a massive amount of work to be done in order to get it up to a certain level.
We all know what happened with FFXIV when it first launched and the things the FFXIV team has done to turn it around and give us the game it is right now. If you haven’t, i would suggest you read the Developer Messages a watch the GDC Presentation Naoki Yoshida has given. Just to get good impression what they had to do to get the game this far.
I personally believe that the FFXIV is still in the process of growing. As it grows, more resources will come available for it and more content can be created for its fans.
If we, as it’s player base, keep supporting this game and supplying them with our wishes and idea’s, then they have something to work with.
