i get the 50% bonus with any of the classes, and i got it as soon as i got my monk to 50. it is always useful, not just at 49.

You don't have to be 50 is the thing. It starts as soon as you're able to open up other classes, and is there as long as you have one class that's any higher than your current class. Level 10 when your highest class is 11? 50% bonus. Level 49 is the only level where you need a level 50 to get the bonus, since every level before that, your highest class can be 1 level higher and still get it.
