Novus Vs the Un-Weathered Weapons...what gives?

So...in the midst of my second book for Stardust Rod Animus atm, and actually quite enjoying it as a quest structure, but I'm looking at this 75 alexandrite (sp?) bullshit I'm bound for afterwards and checking out the stats for the Laevateinn, which are seemingly the same (materia choice depending).

So what the heck?

They kind of have to keep making the 'relic' weapons be 'the best' because of the ridiculous hurdles required to attain the every single upgrade...

And yet I have an Unidentified Allagan Tombstone, so I'm less than 1500 soldiery away from a weapon that's on par with a Novus?

Was gonna use the UAT for my secondary class (Warrior) but now...not sure.

Can someone assure me that the Novus it actually worth it?

Technically novus is the only content that's worth doing, it's the only content out right now that will be bis or near bis when 2nd coil is all on farm and we've moved past it.

If you want to see what the future holds for relic weapons, do it. The step after Novus is coming in 2.38. Optimizing its stats now will mean at least any upgrade in the future will be a good weapon.

If you don't care and just want aa i110 weapon, get your unweathered weapon and work on your Novus as a side thing. Whatever ilvl relic becomes, the time barrier they put in will mean only those able to dedicate hundreds of hours upfront will enjoy it long enough before it becomes basically obsolete sidegrade like Novus is now.

Well keep in mind that the relic will likely have even more stages to it (there's one coming in 2.28, but we don't know exactly what it'll entail yet) and according to SE any future upgrades will keep the stats you put on your Novus, giving the weapons a wild amount of potential if you build them properly.

I've gotten the Novus weapon on my Summoner because it's my main job, but even though I do play other jobs I cannot see myself going through all of that again. In fact, the only way I would go through that huuuuge timesink and even gilsink again would be if Dark Knight was released and I enjoyed it enough to make it my second or maybe new first main job. Note: I am really, really, looking forward to Dark Knight being a Job someday. Even so, I am not sure if I really want to go through all of that again even for a new Job that I would even be really excited about like I would be for Dark Knight.

I will continue to work on the relic upgrades as they come out for my Summoner, because I have already gotten this far, it would be a waste to not continue it and further improve this weapon.

As others have said the relic weapon will keep on upgrading. That unweathered weapon will remain like that when 2.4 hits. Relic is supposed to be the weapon of your main class, unweathered one is supposed to go on you second or third class since barely anyone will bother repeating the quest.

The biggest advantage of relic apart from the fact that will never become obsolete is stat personalization. On my static there are 2 warriors, the other guy has a soldiery weapon with tons of acc and he's sitting on 580 acc which is an overkill and waste of stats. Relic will get respec soon which will make it even better.

If the un-weathered have not the stats you want or too much of the wrong stat, Novus is better.

The 75 alexandrites are nicer than you think, I'd take another novus again, but I despised animus so much. Almost anything you do gives myth nowadays, so theres so many ways to get alexandrite maps. It almost feel like it's in the background, completing itself.

I did novus myself cause that save 3 weeks worth of soldierys and i could gear faster my char.

Have a look at the stats of the Laevateinn. It might be nice if you have problems reaching the Accuracy caps for Coil but a BML shouldn't have a problem with it anyways. A weapon for a DD should focus on Damage and nothing else so the ACC stat on it is a waste in my eyes, only usable as a temporary solution or as a compromise.

The Relict weapon on the other side is fully customizable and will, as others have stated already in this thread, receive more updates in the Future so if you don't do it, you fall behind with each new update they release and once you decide that you want it, you start from scratch. And if you do not belong to the top raiders who can get the Coil weapon quickly, this will be your best weapon for many months.
