To me the Nouvs is a long term investment, which you will be able to upgrade in coming patches. Ive gotten my whm done and currently working on my sch. Tbh, going from Animus to Novus isn't all that bad.

I'd have to disagree on one point that the OP made: making the relic quest line the best available weapon. This is mainly because I'm so far behind(4/12 atmas) and it will take me far longer to complete it since everybody is already past that stage. If SE decides to make the relic weapon the best available weapon in the future, then I'd have no choice but to start at the very beginning and I'm not looking forward to it.
I did my relics for bard, smn, sch, and blm up to Zenith. I was intending to go farther but then I saw all of the ridiculous hoops you have to go through... I'm sorry but I play a game to have fun. Not to endure it.
Dungeons = fun
Coil = fun
CT = fun when you're not surrounded by idiots. (did a server only run...smooth as butter and everyone joking and laughing.)
10,000 Fates = not fun (yes I know, I'm exaggerating a bit...or am I. there are those who can't get out of atma for lack of luck)
God knows how many Myth to buy books that give you a long list of monsters, dungeons, and yes...more fates to do.
millions upon millions gil worth of materia to finally make the perfect weapon...that lasts 1 and a half month before the new tier drops.
I'm having more fun spiritbinding materia to overcharge those gluttons for punishment. I hope the next advancement for Relic involves materia too. I'd like to get a nice medium personal house. I have one scouted out...that is if they use the same housing ward design.
At least with CT/dungeons/Coil, I have a chance of coming out of the run with something even if it's just Soldiery tomes. All of the above...you do that for one item. The work does not equal the reward.

Novus weapons are fully customizable, and in many cases they exceed the power of the unweathered. Consider for example the Thyrus Novus; if you maximize PIE/DET on that you have superior numbers in those stats compared to the Yagrush, and you even have 11 points left over you can throw into acc or crit or whatever you like.
I just feel an incoming epic nerf to atma and animus. Coz, with soldiery uncapped in the near future, a 110 UAT would be a bit too much faceroll to ignore for new players ( and us wanting to gear alts )

This woul be in 2.4, where with a high chance relict can reach ilevel 115 while UAT would be still ilevel 110.
A alternative way could be Hunt, maybe same dropchance like the books ^^

Depending on the abilities you put on your Novus, the secondaries will equate to being stronger than unweathered. But arguably not by much.
I see them nerfing Atma though. It's way too easy to get unweathered i110 now. And with hunts, I think it's actually easier to finish your Novus than it is to finish the Atma quest.
But the new relic upgrade is coming and it would be nice if Atma was a little bit easier for new people. Just providing alternatives would be fun.
It's not the best in the game, never has been, never will be.
It was created to give those who afraid to raid a weapon they have no use for.
I agree whole heartedly
