It's connected to the Hunt system, specifically the high rank Hunt NMs - there are whole parties going around fighting them, and an early pull is when someone goes ahead and attacks the enemy before the parties arrive.

The reason players get so bent out of shape about it is that Hunt targets are not identified on the map, and as it reduces the chance they will receive the maximum credit for fighting it if they don't attack it from the very beginning and come in later - it all comes down to greed and self-entitlement at the end of the day.

Personally I think they should just go and find some other way to get their tomes/seals, but it's regarded as the 'fastest' way, so I don't know. *shrugs*
