    Yet another silly hunt suggestion

Most likely gonna get bombed down as its silly, but hey, might as well give it a try

We all know that buff used by some enemies, that attacking them will stun/damage you. Give A and S marks 2-10 minute lasting "special buff" that makes anyone attacking it afflicted with pacification (30 seconds and renewing on each attack?) that would kinda make people wait the boss buff to wear off, or if they decided to keep attacking it, slow down the killing.

    There! i said it!

A and S ranks are still not designed to be zerged by 300+ people. There is no obligation to announce it to the whole server.

    * The Hunt (Letter LIVE XVI; 07/22/2014)
** Rank higher than S to be added to The Hunt.
*** Rank will be on the same level as original difficulty of Odin and Behemoth FATEs.
I reckon this mark will be designed for such an event.

Here's a thought, No rewards unless you have a mark bill.

I was hoping they would do that for Elite Marks. Give 3 different targets per bill a week, a B rank, an A rank, and an S rank, no reward unless the hunt you kill is one of those 3 targets, and then, only once for that week. It'd get rid of all the problems people have with hunts in one fell swoop.

I love that rather than promote people working together to share large rewards, so many people on this forum would rather obsolete cooperation while having relatively minimal rewards.

It's as if the hunt system created this weird rift in the MMORPG continuum in which normal gaming tendencies do not exist.

I mean things like cooperation and progression, no matter the costs... such as 18 people all standing on a giant dragon's front feet, which is totally realistic too.

I'm fairly certain content like (players have made) Hunts is exactly why so many non-MMO players look at the genre with such confusion.

People are cooperating, sure, but they're cooperating in what effectively amounts to a mass button mashing contest. It's great that people are actually being decent to one another, but they're doing so by taking gaming to its lowest common denominator. There is no more skill or actually anything interesting in what Hunts have become than there is in a "game" like Cookie Clicker. In fact, I'd place Cookie Clicker as an overall better game than running Hunts with the rest of the zerglings.

Again, it's great that people are cooperating to maximize everyone (who agrees with their way of playing) progression, but damned if it didn't completely destroy the actual content in the process.

The only mistake SE made with Hunts was making them the only source of Allied Seals, and making Allied Seals offer such lucrative rewards. That put a massive demand on Hunts which the content was not designed for.

Add alternative means for obtaining Allied Seals, and all problems resolve themselves. Hunts function as they were intended, with groups finding and killing them, rather than the entire server. With an alternative players simply will not care as much about missing an A Rank; they can get their Seals another way. As it stands, miss an A Rank and you've missed those Seals. As the only source of Seals you either get them off the Hunt mob or you miss them. That is the problem with Hunts.

Throw in a viable alternative means to obtaining Allied Seals and Hunts go from a scheduled and systematic melting of mobs, to content pretty much anyone can enjoy, and the drama and mud throwing goes as a result. Only thing SE needs to do, and should have done from the get-go, is ease demand on Hunts.

Those were they days, though even back then you'd have the odd person jumping the queue. It's human nature, not the good side of human nature, but still...

Nalien, I totally agree with the first part of your post. MMORPGs are strange animals, for sure.

What strikes me about hunts is people are so angry about them, they're willing to be unnaturally D-bagish (for lack of a better word) toward their fellow gamers as a way of sticking it to SE, or some weird logic like that.

SE didn't intend for hunts to be fought by so many people (which is dumb), but they definitely intended for A-rank and S-rank hunts to be cooperative.

So now you've got a small number of vigilante hunters who seem to be trying to fix the system by imposing their individual wills upon it, on the grounds that that's what SE intended... but instead, they're just breaking the system even more.

There's definitely nothing more mindless than running up and pulling early.

Hopefully, SE remembers this in future game design. This community is very fragile, and a lot of people just don't like being part of a larger social norm, even one developed by their fellow gamers. The days of standing in line for the FFXI NPC quest are long gone.
