Maybe they purposefully aren't saying anything because they don't want people to bumrush the servers trying to buy land.

Hell, I'd be happy if they just put it off until they have it right. Wards will not work unless they somehow have so prepared for it that they have 5000 plots available at the get go.
I think this is the plan for most who can get on at that time. Some of my FC members plan to wake up super early and try to buy one. As fast as FC housing went on Balmung I don't doubt people are already planning to camp for personal housing.
Let's do some math. We have 2 Million subs and 64 servers... Let's put out like 400 houses that should be good... right guys?
I just don't think they are looking at this the way they should. Personal housing is a big thing for casuals in MMOs and hardcore players alike. So it's one of those things that almost everyone wants. For them to do the same thing they did with FC housing will be a big fail and it just won't go over well with the player base.
Uh... or just join an FC where the leaders aren't jerks? Seriously... I'm in a smaller FC on my server, basically a small group of IRL friends and a slightly larger group of people that we've met ingame and picked up along the way. We used our garden plots to grow glazenuts for the sole purpose of crafting stations for those leveling DoH classes. We also grew chocobo snacks, sold some to have some money for the FC, and put the rest in the storage for anyone to take. There *is* one page of the company storage that's officer only (basically to prevent someone new from joining, completely gutting us of gil and philo mats, and then bailing) but if someone needs something from that page they can ask. The rest of the items in company storage are accessible to all.We already have the exclusive housing that a few players can have but most cannot. Currently, in order to have access to a house you have to be the leader or a top-level officer of a high ranking Free Company. If you're not in a Free Company, then no house for you. If your Free Company is below rank 6 then no house for you. And if you're a member rather than an officer of your Free Company, then all you can do with your house is look at it, so effectively no house for you.
In any case, nobody has any of the information about personal housing yet, but I hope it's coming soon. ^^
There is one issue to this idea though, we're playing a SE game. :PExactly. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense they simply can't handle this kind of demand and instanced rooms would be the only viable route. Luckily for me, they're adding more FC wards so I'll be simply buying myself a mansion that way. Sucks for others though.
They're completely capable of isolating themselves from the rest of the world, occasionally their QA takes the patch off and everything just vaults straight to the docks and into the holds, fire sale to hit ship and sail for players to beta test live lol.
I think this is the case, if they had a wonderful instanced system set up I would imagine they'd share it for pride. This seems more like the quiet before the storm lol.
Servers with a lot of gil are going to be the worst, I wonder if we will crash the zones trying to get that iHome rush. .
Of course I could just be pessimistic and everything is wonderful, but from what SE has said and what they've done in the past - I don't think what is wanted is what will be. I do think though if we make a big deal about it that SE can get out of their shells once more and see that there are some excellent systems in other MMOs for housing. I would expect the worse and let SE know (if what I assume is true) that they need to think of some other ideas.
/debbiedowner XD
I'm hoping for an outdoor instance for just your own house with space for a Gardening plot and Choco stables in future, though only because of memory concerns (a neighbourhood would be cooler, but I wouldn't want it restricting availability).
I'm hoping they'll taking a leaf out of FFXI's book and having a fishing hole / mining / botany node that drops a random appropriate item to you a la Quick Ventures.
I'm hoping you can increase the size of your house through crafting, with supply missions similar to GC Supply Missions and that both interior and exterior are customizable.
I'm hoping for no limit and a fixed price around or below the million gil mark, although I'd also be happy with paying rent, as long as I could pay in advance for a number of months.
I'm hoping that the house is shared between all characters on that server that the player has created on the same Service Account.
I'm hoping for a personal chest with 25-50 storage slots that can be accessed by all characters on the same service account for inter-character transfer of items (that's exclusive, unlike the FC chest)
I'm hoping that people in your alliance can enter your personal instance.
I'm hoping for a free-to-teleport 'home-point', a Market Board, a Summoning Bell, the Unending Journey, the Armoire, the Aesthetician, the Toy Box and to be able to Heck my Bed.
I'm hoping for a lot of things, but I fear none of them will happen.
Thanks for reminding me. Completely off topic, but why is this gone in ARR? It was one of the better features that added to 1.0, and I'm sure they could do much more with it in ARR; more Hildibrand quests with you waking up to his ghastly face, more nightmares after quests (Tam-Tara (Hard) and Lost City), or just about anything they can think of.
Instead they removed it, and every day you log into the game with the same things going on, no "Why the funk is there a Holy Shield under my pillow?!". Meh.
It would be really cool if you could assign various people on your friends list to have the ability to fertilize your garden and feed your chocobo.
