Monks, Legacy Controls, and Auto Attacks

I've been playin monk for quite a while now and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for playing monk on a controller. More specifically, how many of you use legacy controls(even on a keyboard). I feel like I'm missing auto attacks while using legacy. So I've started using the lock-on feature with legacy controls but I'm not totally use to it yet and I sometimes have trouble dodging.

    Anyone with any tips?

Legacy controls with keyboard+mouse have a few more movement options than with a controller. To maintain auto-attacks, you can either input+hold both mouse buttons and S, then use W+A to strafe while swinging the camera with the mouse, or reduce the number of inputs while simultaneously reducing available keybinds by simply binding strafe keys instead.

A legacy controls bard can severely reduce time facing away from the boss while backing up by abusing the "snapping" feature of clicking both mouse buttons: your character will instantly turn to face forward, so you can sort of "bunny hop" backwards by inputting S->Space->Left+Right Click in quick succession to maintain momentum through jumping and turn in the air. I use this technique to try to maintain auto-attacks during "clock" Heavensfall in Savage Turn 9 if I have to move directly away from Nael and I'm confident that the situation is such that an improper input won't kill me.

With a controller I just lock on and when I gotta move I lock off. Took a bit of getting used to but it's so worth. DPS went way up and once I got used to the movement there's no issue.

I'm having a hard time in general with monk, I've been getting some good training from a fellow FC member on rotations and positions, but I'm just having a hard time surviving fights, since we are always right in the thick of everything. Anyone have any tips on this? Sometimes I can't even stay near a boss without getting my face kicked in instantly. Maybe I should have been a caster dpser lol.

That comes with the territory. It's a matter of learning when it's safe to go near the boss (or finding out what's damaging you and learning how to avoid it) and being spatially aware.

Any real advice would depend on what you're getting hit by and why.

Some bosses have deceptively large hitboxes so it may be worth trying to step back a bit until you're at max range for whatever you are fighting. Sometimes being 1-2 steps further from a boss makes a huge difference when you have to run out of AOEs.

Takes some time to get use to but learning to lock-on and lock-off at a moments notice is the best choice on controller. There are now few times when I don't lock on. A few seconds in T8 when I need full access of my camera to find mines, and maybe rare situations when I want to hit an add and boss with howling fist but they arent close enough. I'll take off lock-on and get in the add's hitbox to make howling fist reach
