Flash video limiting your GPU clock to 2d values?

It is for me, for chrome and firefox, when a flash video is loaded my GPU reverts to 2d clocks/voltage until it's unloaded (navigate away, close tab/browser).

ATI GPU, cat 11.7, latest versions of browsers and flash.

My 5870 is having similar issues. I believe it's endemic to the current crop of ATI cards.

Not sure if the 6XXX series is better at this or not.

Getting accelerating decoding and software rendering cancels the problem. Go fullscreen and it will be ok until you skip to another part of the video which turns accelerated rendering on and lowers gpu clocks back.

Had this problem with my 5770 series... then again with my 6850, but ever since patch 1.17, I think it was, it oddly stopped doing it :S

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration on flash videos?

I might try it out of curiosity, but frankly I'm just happy that I found the cause.

BTW, please don't turn this in a retarded nvidia vs ati thing.
