This is purely your opinion and no one else. This is always a bad example and comparison of both games.

FFXI is now being made and was back when Abyssea came out for the "casual" crowd (still not sure why people use that word as something bad).
It had its ups and downs (many of both.) FFXIV:ARR is an amazing game imho. I love the storyline so far, it's truly captivated me, and I can't wait to see how it all keeps going in the updates/expansion to come!

I have my own issues with FFXIV:ARR that I hope they eventually get to and resolve with creative ways to keep the game going on for many years, but I definitely don't want a rehash of FFXI, I gladly welcome many "successful" ideas to come over from that game or any for that matter.

A lot of people forget to realiz FFXI was gated behind content just like XIV, but in different ways. When FFXI first came out, there was no sky, sea, gods, Limbus, nothing ToAU endgame related, hardly any real endgame content. RoZ, CoP, and ToAU truly brought the variety of endgame content so many people fondly remember. But in order to even get to that stuff, you had to level your job(s). Which in itself took an extremely long time. That was FFXI's gate. Especially for when it first came out. Spend months (even years) getting just your first lvl 75. Before you could finally experience the limited endgame pre-RoZ and any other expansion.

I gladly welcome anything like a complex job such as PUP (even FFXI's SMN) to the mix of FFXIV:ARR. Give me my RDM back! I want BLU, I wana be a DNC again, finally getting my NIN! Come on Yoshi!

    Thank you for understanding.

Carelessness is not the same as name calling. Just saying - big difference.

I hope you realize that jobs with that level of "options" were pretty few in FFXI (Blue Mage and Puppetmaster) and were added years after the release of the game. It's not impossible that some day we'll see the same in XIV.

In contrast, physical DPS jobs are far more interesting to play in XIV.

Mages can go either way. FFXI had far more spells, but mostly consisted of spells having the exact same function:
    - one status healing spell for each status effect.
    - elemental series spells all did the same thing but with improving damage.
    - cure series spells all did the same thing (mostly, Cure V at the time was a bit different) but had improved healing.
    - etc, etc for most spell series.

FFXIV already has a problem with certain spells falling into disuse, imagine how it was in FFXI. So, the argument is whether you prefer a long list of spells, but most of them being outdated or unused, or a smaller list with most of them being relevant.

I've been hearing things, a LOT of things, about XI and the changes and let me tell you... The temptation is strong. It's really strong to give it another go and explore all the new things they have added. I guess my biggest gripe is still with the game client - I tried around the release of Andoiun (sp) to see the new xpac but I found it too difficult to get the client configured properly on my laptop, even with a cheat sheet of tricks I had from my last go-round with it. (things like locking it to a single core, turning off anything that may be attached to the network connection ala Virtualbox\Sonicwall VPN, etc). Nope. Still wouldn't run right, still wouldn't recognize my controller, still was just a pain in the neck to even log on.

I agree in a very generic way, though - XI is and was vastly more complex than this game is, and I don't understand this deep fear developers have of making their games interesting and challenging. They aren't afraid to put in a menial grind on level 2 FATEs or a system that encourages players to be vicious to one another, but ask for real complexity that would challenge the individual? They balk all day long. I don't get it.

See, the problem with this and other comments like it is that the developers can't say "Well we didn't add this until 5ish years or whatever into our other mmo, so we can skate by with not improving upon that process because hey, it's only a year old!" And it's NOT only a year old. YoshiP has been on the project for a short time, but the game has been in development\reconstruction\planning\etc for over half a decade now. They really can't use the "it's brand, spanking new" excuse when they have almost 15 years experience in building mmos. The complexity should have been there from the start because you always want to improve upon your last project, and if nothing else, should certainly be working its way in there now, 5 years into the endeavor.

Says the person who replied to the post in question by saying "No need to be an ass".

If this game turns anymore into XI its going to drop so many subs.

XI was just an awful game.

It takes time for things to be developed. That's why.
