This is purely your opinion and no one else. This is always a bad example and comparison of both games.
FFXI is now being made and was back when Abyssea came out for the "casual" crowd (still not sure why people use that word as something bad).
It had its ups and downs (many of both.) FFXIV:ARR is an amazing game imho. I love the storyline so far, it's truly captivated me, and I can't wait to see how it all keeps going in the updates/expansion to come!
I have my own issues with FFXIV:ARR that I hope they eventually get to and resolve with creative ways to keep the game going on for many years, but I definitely don't want a rehash of FFXI, I gladly welcome many "successful" ideas to come over from that game or any for that matter.
A lot of people forget to realiz FFXI was gated behind content just like XIV, but in different ways. When FFXI first came out, there was no sky, sea, gods, Limbus, nothing ToAU endgame related, hardly any real endgame content. RoZ, CoP, and ToAU truly brought the variety of endgame content so many people fondly remember. But in order to even get to that stuff, you had to level your job(s). Which in itself took an extremely long time. That was FFXI's gate. Especially for when it first came out. Spend months (even years) getting just your first lvl 75. Before you could finally experience the limited endgame pre-RoZ and any other expansion.
I gladly welcome anything like a complex job such as PUP (even FFXI's SMN) to the mix of FFXIV:ARR. Give me my RDM back! I want BLU, I wana be a DNC again, finally getting my NIN! Come on Yoshi!
