As I just started out I was thinking to lvl a melee job...and pug or lancer seem to me most interesting of all others.
But after reading this thread I don't know what to do - there are so many jobs I need to lvl first in order to play a pug (or a lancer).
Are those other job skills really that necessary? Or as a first job I may lvl pug (as dd) and just get the 1st tier abilities (i.e. Ferocity, Raging Strike etc.) to be a good (not best) dd?

You dont need the attack buffs for starters, but you will need some of the starting healing abilities and protect-shell-shockspikes if possible.

Also bear in mind, a good bit of the attractive abilities you want from other classes usually don't require high levels to get (with the exception of most II abilities). A small amount of time in another class to get what you need is all you should need to invest for most of the useful abilities. You don't necessarily HAVE to have these abilities to level PGL or play it, but at some point you will want to get them.
