when will the ps3 support be dropped? (from a ps3 player)

Its been too long since they said anything about it but im hoping to atleast get a dev tp give some sort of estimation. I play the ps3 version and there are just some things it can't handle well for instance syrcus tower. I have been getting nonstop lagg ever since I did my first run of it and I know its not my internet because my ping varies from 16 to 40 ping. There is also the problem with odn behemonth and the a and s rank mobs vanishing. I know later when more content gets added the ps3 problems are only going to get worse so thats why im asking this. I plan to eventually move to pc for ffxiv. I also don't want some features that people want be denied because of certain limitations yeah I remember most of the devs post stated "certain hardware limitations"

That's why you shouldn't take any chances, I have a ps3 but I didn't expect to play with my console for this game.

I know better with the low ram it has, so I went and got me a controller for my pc and a video card.

I would of gotten the ps4 though I don't ever get first edition's I always go for the slim version because they are updated version and cost less.

I think SE already stated somewhere that they will drop PS3 support if they MUST, a good indication as they give you a free PS4 version if you've already played it on PS3. There just has not been a significant reason to as of yet.

But after you play on PS4 you will never go back to PS3, ever, unless, well no, you won't..

I would get a ps4 but sadly im not interested in the new consoles.besides im saving up some money for a pc anyway

At this point SE said that PS3 will be supported thought first expansion, but if they come to a point where what they want to do is held back by the PS3, they will drop support.

According to Yoshida, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s first expansion pack will be available in its entirety for PlayStation 3, but as far as the later ones go, he is still uncertain.

The reason for this is because Square Enix feel that in order to compete against other products in the MMORPG market, they must continuously “renew” Final Fantasy XIV, and this could mean that they might eventually go over the capacities of the PlayStation 3.

Yoshida says if they end up having to “trim things out for the sake of the PS3,” he’ll have some big decisions to make.

Now of course SE has the right to change their minds at any time if SE thinks the game is being held back by the PS3, but at this time they have not said anything about stopping support for FFXIV ARR on PS3.

That'll probably be the decision of the higher ups of SE. Someone mentioned that they atleast planned for ps3 support in the expansion.

That and there's also the fact that its also supported on the ps4 AND there are many others who's PC is lower end

Yep, a good number pf PC will be outperformed by ps3, not everyone have ultimate PC gaming hardware. This makes the drop of ps3 support without sense, if game still supported on low end PCs.

As long as both PC and ps3 can be upgraded by purchase of new hardware (new PC and ps4), eventually the drop of ps3 comes at the point the game will hit the console hardware limitations, as some of you already stated.

Then, you know you (low end PC, ps3 user) are using old or low-end hardware, and you know the experience is better on new hardware, so do not put blame on SE if you are playing a 2014's game (it released on 2013 but the performance problems are reported most on 2014's content) on 2008's hardware.

you realize that any pc have already far more rams than the ps3, other point it's a very old hardware, out since the 11th november 2006... it's quite old, even pc from 2008 was already doing better than the ps3. however, they was using better the console since it didn't change inside for very long.

anyway, the main limitation are not graphical or the processor but the rams, 256mo, how can you expect them to introduce new technologie for them game with this sort of limitation. it did already affect the whole process of creation of the game during the beta of ARR, a lot of limitation (bag, name, city,...) was placed because of the ps3. they want to keep the game growing in population and keep people. they can't do this if them hardware block them, they talk of flying fight and many other high level tech... when you see that the ps3 have some trouble for show all the player when more of 100 are around...
