AoC is such a nice game, it's way too underrated. I like it way more than ARR but its kind of dead and funcom is a horrible company that doesn't support their games.
I remember playing on the Blood and Glory server with free PK. No safety, people ganking everywhere. That feeling of danger wherever you go. The need to stick together with your friends and survive. Kill or be killed. Ah, good times.
Also, Wizardry Online. One of the few games where dungeons actually felt like dungeons.

I'm in a party with jerks right now as we speak![]()
I'm far from eccentric, I'm so psychotic...

I am surprised no one mentioned LOTRO, but that was where I spent the majority of my time... Vanilla LOTRO.
Probably one of my favorite memories of that game was finally completing ALL of the Shire quests, deeds, and traits on my Captain. Good God did that take a lot of dedication... Or the hilarious chicken run, where you are turned into a chicken and have to run across practically every zone for a title. A level 1 chicken, that things could one shot, mind you.
Lol, I still have the pre-CU emu installed somewhere, I think...

I could name several MMOs which are quite dear to me, however, Ragnarok Online is still the most important to me.
I think I've yet to play a MMO which has the same charme as this game had.
Vanilla (Pre-Rebirth) and the early patches after Rebirth were awesome, and I certainly had my fun for around five years.
Not to mention that War of Emperium (which I also enjoyed for the last three years of my playtime), were worthy enough to level up only a character for the sole purpose of pvping.
The classes were lovely, the BGM is truly a masterpiece and in overall the maps, the dungeons made this game really good (Glast Heim, anyone?)
I've played more than seven MMO's actively (WoW classic till end of cata, for example as well); and I can only say that no game has hooked me for such a long time than Ragnarok Online.
Sadly they completely destroyed this game with the 3.0 classes; i.e overhauling the whole leveling system.
RO, you will be missed. Not only by me.

For me it would be Perfect World!
It was my first ever mmo around 6 years ago now and I fell in love with it! Especially the music.
I recently (well a few months back) tried to go back to it to go back to some of my favorite places and just feel generally nostalgic but so much had changed! I tried to replicate my old character as much as I could (as thankfully the character creation remained pretty much the same) but all the starting zones had changed and that kinda made me go "oh.." and quickly lose interest! But maybe I will go back to it yet again another time!
It's easy to lose sight of things in a world as wide as this one, but if you keep going, you're sure to find what you're looking for, sooner or later.
For me, I always go back to EQ and FFXI when the genre hadn't been reduced to what it is today. Some mechanics were arcane but they had that "feeling of accomplishment" in droves, something a lot of newer MMOs simply can't recreate. Finding players to party with and actually adventuring, getting killed, extreme challenges that could always be overcome with teamwork. Early on, some classes/jobs were not always up to snuff, but that didn't always hinder you. Groups learned to play to their strengths.
Games like WoW and their gearscores and instances have really caused the genre to take an arrow to the knee as players trained to be only out for themselves and not for the betterment of their party. Gear was a big part of that progression, but it wasn't always about the pixelcrack. It was always about the experience first.

I do have a bit of MMO nostalgia but it's not a good memory....
I played Anarchy Online for years before I left. About 9 years ago now, I was the leader of my organization and someone managed to get into my account and stole all my stuff. I was too busy training for work and and preoccupied so I didn't change my password right away. Later that day, that same person logged into my account again, took all my money, reset all my attributes and put them into something completely useless and disbanded the organiation so that we lost our entire organization bank, the city we had at the time and any tower plots. Luckily we had a lot of friends that helped us rebuild. Still, I never did recover everything that I lost.
