[dev1068] Repurpose Crystals when the materia system comes out

As of writing, in the crafting system at least some form of crystal is needed in every recipe. I believe this is similar to FF11. Well when the materia system comes out, maybe remove crystals from normal crafting and make them for creating the various types of materia. So if you need a materia that has plus +2 to attack, vitality, and dexterity, you might use fire, ice, and wind shards. If you want something with a bonus to peity, you could use an earth crystal. And then you could also combine crystals to create certain other types of materia. If you wanted to add water damage to your item you'd make a water materia using water shards and something else.

the crystal market would drop so much unless creating materia needed an insane amount of crystals per synth. No?

Also, why not leave it like it is? I don't see what is wrong with using the crystals in synthing items, plus I think it's already in the storyline that cities need lots of crystals because of the trades.

    Simple answer: no thanks.

An unecessary change that messes with the lore and a lot of other mechanical efforts implemented up until now.

Maybe materia are refined crystals that are cut into a more abstract/specific representation by goldsmiths (Like how ALCs break down/transmute crystals)? The more specific the representation, the larger the crystal structure that's required to pair down like an Earth Cluster required to make a "Titan Eye Materia" to substitute for an earth crystal in a recepie to give additional thematic benefits to the crafted item.

Perhaps that's part of the reason I want them for materia only... they'll have a use (customizable gear) and other crafters won't be so dependent on the things.

That wasn't ment as an argument against your Idea. I just never read anything about that crystals aren't used anymore later on. I always thought the materia system is something adittional and nothing changes in regards to normal syntesis.

If they get another purpose in which they don't loose their value too much I don't care. I just wanted to make a point that there are people that spent a lot for them. And I still have many now since I bought very much and I don't just want to loose what I invested in them. Kinda a fear that arised after I've read your thread about change of the syntesis in regards to changes to it.
